'Lemoinei '. PRICE: $22.00 .

50002 ACANTHUS MONTANUS FRIELING'S SENSATION ACAN TGH PRICE: $ 15.00 A variegated selection by Ken Frieling here at the GHW of "False Thistle" with yellow marbled deeply cut leaf margins turning into rich patches of creamy ivory with age. Handsome foliage topped by spires of white bracts stained raspberry pink. A centerpiece in many international conservatories and display gardens since its introduction in the early 1980s, this brilliantly variegated shrub has recently gained a new group of admirers as a centerpiece in mixed urns and container gardens due to excellent photos appearing in several major horticulturally oriented magazines. Will always demand center stage and (due to the unforgiving foliage), considerable respect.

30550 ACORUS GRAMINEUS MASAMUNE ARAC HP HT PRICE: $4.75 Bright white-striped leaves similar to A.g. variegatus--altho considered to be more compact and shorter as matures. An easily grown houseplant, always a star in a terrarium setting, equally happy in a damp area outside in our climate here.

52004 AECHMEA CAUDATA ALBO-MARGINATA BRO HP TGH PRICE: $ 25.00 Tall impressive urns of tough leathery leaves brilliantly margined in ivory, gradually offset to form an art nouveau fantasy. Strong growing piece of drama, but needs bright light, especially to produce the soft yellow flowered inflorescenceorescenceoresence. Major specimen impact in any plant array; a must for lovers of extreme variegation; a major focal point in the conservatory display.

52010 AECHMEA FASCIATA ALBO-MARGINATA BRO HP TGH PRICE: $45.00 Rather uncommon selection of the "Pink Feather Duster" (a description of the dramatic inflorescence). Wurthman's prefered form of the white-banded "Silver Urn." This remarkable beauty will be shipped in moss.

52273 AECHMEA GAMOSEPALA LUCKY STRIPES BRO HP TGH PRICE: $15.00 The nearly spineless outcurved erect leaves are broadly striped bright white, wonderfully overlapping to form an upright glossy urn like rosette--beautiful with the blue petaled blossoms tighly packed on a "Bottlebrush" inflorescence; certainly a must in any collection of exceptional variegates. Always sought out by Bromelliad lovers and fanciers of extreme variegation as this is an especially undemanding plant, given the drama of its appearance. We finally had enough stock to drmatically reduce the price.

51289 AGAPANTHUS AFRICANUS GETTY WHITE AMARYL CGH PRICE: $ 10.00 Somewhat compact glaucous foliaged selection of the "Nile Lily" with heads of ivory white flowers emerging from the attractive leathery leaf fans; must reach maturity before blooming.

68006 AGAVE AMERICANA MEDIO-PICTA AGA HP CGH PRICE: $ 45.00 Very dramatic gold central stripes on each potentially massive leaf; does not flower without nearly free root-run. American Indians use this in native medicine as an antiinflamatory This plant is not always available. It is actually rarer than the white form. Please inquire.

68009 AGAVE ANGUSTIFOLIA MARGINATA AGA HP TGH PRICE: $ 10.00 "Banded Caribbean Agave" Stiff bayonette leaves of bluish-gray liberally margined in creamy white and lined with attractive brown spines; rugged decorative houseplant fast growing with adequate light and moisture. A great plant for the house. Easily grown!

30101 ALOCASIA MACRORHIZA VARIEGATA ARAC TGH PRICE: $ 35.00 "Variegated Taro" Elephant ears dramatically splashed creany to marble white in irregular patterns--no two giant leaves will ever be alike. For the serious collector. Not a reliable winter grower for us (typically retaining only a few winter leaves), but always completely amazing by mid summer. Hard to top for sheer spectacle.

65643 ALOELOBA WHITE WINGS LIL TGH HP PRICE: $ 12.00 Beautiful thick stacks of elaborately jewel work "inlaid" leaves. The silver of the dark striated thick leaf centers are quite ornately dotted platinum, each thich gray green leaf also mottled beneath--indicative of its Aloe parent; the whorled hard surfaced upreaching habit suggests the other Astroloba blood. Very beautiful unique addition to your rare succulent collection.

54554 ALSTROEMERIA PULCHELLA VARIEGATED ALS CGH HH PRICE: $ 6.50 Remarkable "Frosted Peruvian Lily" The elegant clusters of tubular cinnamon flowers are the final over-the-top gesture by this upright stemmed plant with such brilliantly white tipped foliage. The gradually widening clusters of this most showy Andean have proven winter hardy here in Zone 6 with adequate winter mulch. But most popular with hobby greenhouse growers as it achieves great beauty and vigor in a sunny winter greenhouse, blooming with abandon mid winter.

41926 ALTERNANTHERA FICOIDEA WHITE CARPET AMARA HP TERR TGH PRICE: $ 5.00 Very congested flattened buns of lovely tiny puckered leaves brightly margined bold white. Incredible Indian cultivar famous for fooling plant show judges who cannot believe this is cousin to the "Calico/ Parrot" tribe! The most successful way to introduce a patch of white in your terrarium or tropical trough. Much used in moss topiary as this quilted carpet stays close to the surface.

40026 ALTERNANTHERA VERSICOLOR SNOWBALL AMARA HP CGH PRICE: $ 4.00 Heavily branched stemlets of this "Ocean Froth" plant bear dainty leaves splashed brilliant white. Truly a "White Wonder." Flower inflorescenceorescence a froth of white--incredible as house plant, greenhouse showoff, and outdoor summer container accent. (AND: the skirt of Snow White at Disneyworld.)

53239 ANANAS SPECIES CREAM BANDS BRO TGH HP PRICE: $ 15.00 Available now! "Variegated Smoothleaf Pineapple" Striking selection of the pineapple with striping of green, white, and pink; soft leaved form, great for the bright window in the house. Fabulous in a greenhouse; striking as a windowsill subject; eyecatching in a container composition.

52307 ANANAS FRITZMUELLERI (VARIEGATUS) BRO TGH HP PRICE: $ 15.00 OUT OF STOCK "Variegated Pineapple" Striking selection of the commercial pineapple with striping of green, white, and pink; small fruit is rose toned. Fabulous in a greenhouse; striking as a windowsill subject; eyecatching in a container composition.

68472 APTENIA CORDIFOLIA MAJOR VARIEGATA AIZ TGH HP PRICE: $ 7.00 Succulent chrystaline embedded large leaf pairs strinkingly margined ivory on fleshy cascading stems with showy clusters of rich maroon red flowers; "The Giant Sun Rose" needs full light, adequate light, and constant warmth to reach its full potential.

58361 BRASSAIA ARBORCOLA MOONDROP BIG CGH HH PRICE: $ 12.00 "Moondrop Schefflera" Very petite habit: dwarf erect trunks heavy with small waxy fingered wheelspoke leaves irregularly margined in very pure bright white. Most petite of the ones we offer.

41953 BREYNIA DISTICHA NANA EUP CGH HP PRICE: $ 10.00 Marvelous "Dwarf Snowbush" with oval green & white "Foliage Flower" leaves on zig-zagging stems. Very lovely miniature form with stronger color contrast (plus pinkish when cool); very sought after for "mame" subject in Asia.

42196 BRUGMANSIA CANDIDA DOUBLE WHITE [PLENA] SOL CGH HP PRICE: $ 12.00 Handsome double flowered "Angel's Trumpet" leaves the viewer rather breathless. Dark pelted foliage distinct. Customers report this to easily produce heavily scented blossoms more reliably than others in a greenhouse setting; branches easily; seems to respond well to the restriction of containers. This hard working hybrid of B. aurea x B. versicolor is usually offered as 'Knightii' in Europe. The only one we grow here that has been observed to bloom every month of the year. Tony Avent reports this to be root hardy in the deep south.

59201 BRUGMANSIA INSIGNIS SINGLE WHITE SOL TGH CGH PRICE: $ 5.50 "White Angel's Trumpet" Large white dangling flowers with heady nocturnal fragrance are produced with great abandon from vigorous elegantly branched stems--considered the most elegant of the tribe and most likely to get its photo in a book. Possibly versicolor arborea.

55580 BRUGMANSIA SUAVEOLENS VARIEGATA SOL TGH PRICE: $ 15.00 Compact statured "Variegated Angel's Trumpet with foot long somewhat upturned clotted creamy white belled trumpets repeating the stunning white margins of the downy somewhat pleated leaves. Easiest to flower of the variegated clones we offer.
50510 CAMPELIA ZANONIA MEXICAN FLAG COMM TGH PRICE: $ 22.00 Spectacular spiderwort with whorls of foot-long ivory-white striped leaves with reddish edges on bamboo-like striated stalks topped by white spiderwort blossoms; must have warmth & good light. Most definitely not a houseplant. In European trade usually offered as Dichorisandra albo-lineata, while some authorities now consider this to be in the genus Tradescantia! Stunning enough to warrant building a greenhouse to accomodate this gentle giant.

40102 CARISSA HUMPHREYII VARIEGATA [HORT] APO HP TGH PRICE: $ 6.75 "Variegated Natal Plum" Coin-size waxy leaves with brilliant creamy white margins on compactly growing shrub; pinwheel fl pure white. One of the best houseplants with white variegation covered by a wax surface sufficient to prevent burning in a low humidity environment. Very slow growing. Very desirable.

80744 CENTAUREA GYMNOCARPA CAPRI COMP HH CGH HT PRICE: $ 6.50An upright shrub from Capri with deeply dissected snowflake "Dusty Miller" leaves completely covered by a rich felted tomentose silver--which filigreed leaves completely hide the wooly white woody stems (repeat three times, very quickly). If wintered over, expect cute clusters of early rosy violet, fluffy, rayed flowers. Perfect in containers and borders. Not a Senecio or Artemisia, although a mimic of both through and through. This starts out as a spindly silvery stalk and finishes as a full bodied dramatic knock-out in any garden or container design.

40115 CHLOROPHYTUM BICHETII [LAXUM] LIL HP TGH PRICE: $ 6.75 "False Lily Turf" Marvelous tufts of small arching blades margined in ivory white; good in low light; from Gabon. "Pongol" has become a great favorite with terrarium fanciers as it maintains its petite tightly clumping tuffet outline to provide a welcome white banded foil to flashier companions. This belongs in the short "Toy Category" of the tribe as it reliably slowly clumps, never throwing out long arching shoots with plantlets. Its tuberous roots insure its survival should its human experience lapses in watering.

40119 CHLOROPHYTUM COMOSUM VARIEGATUM LIL HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.00 "White Spider" Unusual low succulent flat outstretched leaves margined ivory; odd cultivar of remarkable endurance. Far more succulent rubbery foliage with more lateral growth habit than the rest of the tribe: thus, emerging as the best form to plant out in bedding, urns, windowboxes, and so on as survives (and even perfers) high sun and wind exposure with minimal damage.

31463 COLOCASIA ESCULENTA MILKY WAY [VARIEGATA] ARA TGH PRICE: $ 25.00 Breathtaking "Variegated Elephant Ear" with big arrowhead leaves lavishly splashed with creamy gray and mottled with white--a snowstorm of confettii. To flourish needs boggish conditions with full light and warm temps.

53101 COSTUS DUBIUS WINNSTRIPE ZIN HP TGH PRICE: $ 20.00 Tom Winn's selection of a wide banded clone--the succulent spiraled leaves are more striped than margined.

51027 CRINUM ASIATICUM VARIEGATUM AMARY TGH HP PRICE: $ 35.00 "Striped Bengal Lily" Large fleshy sword-like leaves are most liberally streaked white & cream; fragrant clusters of waxy white fls with purpled centers. Striking decorator specimen for the warm greenhouse--drops roots if soil is cool. Certainly the easiest and most dramatic for the hobby greenhouse; equally wonderful if brought out into your outdoor display pool for the summer (but does best if not submerged). Unlike most variegated Crinum cultivars, if given adequate warmth, this one NEVER drops foliage in a cycle of dormancy or in a fit of stubbornness, but incrementally adds more and more fantastically white striped succulent leafs to create a magnificent specimen.

41480 DIANELLA SPECIES WHITE STRIPE LIL HP TGH PRICE: $18.00 Unidentified stoloniferous species with erect arched leaves striped and margined with brilliant white. Slim wands hold nodding lilac blossoms. Striking specimen for full light. Does not closely clump like D. caerulea (perhaps D. tasmanica?). Does well as an indoor house plant.

41585 DURANTA PLUMIERII [REPENS] VARIEGATA VER HP TGH PRICE: $ 12.00 "Ivory Margined Skyflower" Vining shrubs with woody out arching stems ranked with beautiful glossy toothed leaves with very wide creamy-white margins. The blue (fading to lilac) flower clusters are followed by yellow "Pigeon Berry" fruit. Caribe native. Foliage larger and flashier than the repens/erecta complex--although the nomenclature exists in a perpetual fog currently.

41254 DURANTA REPENS [ERECTA?] VARIEGATA VER CGH HP PRICE: $ 6.50 "Variegated Skyflower" Serrated glossy small leaves splashed white. China blue flowers followed by bright "Pigeon Berry" fruit; more difficult to grow than its kin; variegation (which is a speckling, not a solid margin) may disappear in warmer climates. Nonetheless, the small leaves and twiggy nature of this clone combine to maintain it the favorite of bonsai enthusiasts.

80476 ERYSIMUM LINIFOLIUM VARIEGATUM CRU HH HT CGH PRICE: $ 5.50 "Variegated Wallflower" Short stems completely covered with arched fountain of narrow evergreen leaves margined in bright white; Spanish species with violet mauve flowers fading to soft old rose, then amber. Perfect for rockery or border--but not reliably hardy in winters beyond our Zone 6b; nonetheless an even more delightful container subject in the cold winter hobby greenhouse with lush highly variegated foliage accented with the lovely hued blossoms starting in February when protected from freezing. Not a houseplant.

66227 EPIPHYLLUM BRIDAL VEIL [HYB] CAC CGH HP PRICE: $ 6.25 Irridescent pearl white flowers; in high light, the thick foliage develops a blushed edge. This hybrid will not form buds without high light and a coolish fall period.

66193 EPIPHYLLUM SPECIES GRANADA WHITE CAC CGH HP PRICE: $ 3.75 Lovely slim deep green ribbons cascade to present the white winter blossoms. Very effective grown as a cascading specimen of cascading succulent ribbons like upsidedown seaweed--would never even need to bloom in order to deserve a place in any display. An excellent one to start with as a houseplant as it is native to an area without any cool autumn period, and thus does not require the cool (but not chill) fall temperatures required by most the giant flowered hybrids in order to initiate their flower buds. Cheap and easy. The ideal date.

66796 EUPHORBIA HETEROPHYLLA YOKOI'S WHITE EUP TGH PRICE: $ 10.00 Petite, tidy poinsettia shaped leaves are richly margined with cream; annual rose blushed soft red bracts form late summer, persisting intensely into fall. From Dr. Masato Yokoi's find in Okinawa in 1989--you will need to re-root this regularly to avoid and prevent its natural urge to be an annual! Excellent as outdoor summer 'annual' or a perennial for winter greenhouse blooms. Now that you are armed with these cultural tricks, can you really resist such a beauty?

67442 EUPHORBIA MILII UNABASHED WHITE [HYB] EUP HP TGH PRICE: $ 15.00 "White Crown of Thorns" Lophogona hybrid with fleshy leaves with typically thick midveins studding the erect trunks, flanked by 3 to 7-spined ridges; large pure white overlapping cyathophylls of good substance, with occasional red midrib pinstripe in high lite. Excellent--but often overordered--we suggest you inquire as to current availability before ordering if you are of little patience.

68712 EUPHORBIA MILII WHITE LIGHTNING EUPH PRICE: $ 45.00 Simply stunning. Substantial heavy stems, ridged with spines, with large rubbery creamy white leaves flamed basil green (vigorous lophogona-like habit) with clusters of four bright coral red flowers (cyathophylls). Merely spectacular.

40263 FICUS ASPERA [PARCELLII] MOR HP TGH $ 35.50 "Clown Fig" Available from time to time; inquire. Sandpapery leaves flecked creamy white, gray green and dull tanish pink with a bit of green mosaic to maintain sufficient chlorophyll; fruit striped cream. Eventually achieves considerable stature. Needs a constant level of humidity to ward off attacks of spider mite. Seems to perform best in a cool greenhouse in full sun with free root run. Taxonomists now suggest that 'Parcellii' be considered a cultivar name rather than a synonym--an a solid green leaved form seems to be still undiscovered.

55577 FICUS ELASTICA TRICOLOR MOR GH PRICE: $ 5.00 Brilliantly variegated "Rubber Tree" with amazing color possible to keep even in areas of lower humidity as the thick leathery leaves have a waxy surface protecting them from and rapid loss of moisture. The angular growth habit is easily toned down by judicious pruning.

40300 FICUS SAGITATA VARIEGATA MOR HP TGH PRICE: $ 10.00 "Trailing Fig" dark quilted long leaves over wiry often creeping stems which arch to give an open effect. This is the beautiful variegated or marginated form of this old favorite. Not as clingy as the Ficus pumila types, but makes quite a nice ground cover in pots around larger plants. Also if often used as a hanging basket subject and perfect in mossed topiary use as the stems root into the moss.

80010 GLECOMA HEDERACEA VARIEGATA LAB HH CGH PRICE: $5.00 "Gill-Over-the-Ground" Small creeping mint with pert pairs of fuzzy kidney shaped leaves & tiny flowers. This clone of "Ground Ivy" or "Alehoof" has bright white margins on each leaf. Green reversions can be invasive; do NOT allow reversions to proliferate (even if American Indians used it for medicinal purposes). Also popular in hanging baskets and windowboxes for its dramatic cascading abilities.

41691 HEDERA HELIX HELENA ARAL HP CGH PRICE: $4.00 (AIS) Deeply lobed leaves of slate green and gray richly margined in parchment white. Forms thick lacy mound--the narrow star shaped lobes, with prominent curved tip, create a feathery filigree effect.

42115 HEDERA HELIX LITTLE DIAMOND ARAL CGH HH PRICE: $ 6.25 Small-statured 'Kleiner Diamant' with diamond shaped gray splashed leaves with delicate white border. Very shrubby; a conversation piece small enough for the alpine house.

40351 HIBISCUS ROSA-SINENSIS COOPERI MALV HP CGH PRICE: $ 5.00 "Snowflake Hibiscus" cultivar with slim leaves lavishly splashed greenish-tan, white; single rose-red flowers. Handsome and easy.

60079 HOYA CARNOSA COMPACTA MARGINATA (REGALIS) ASC HP TGH PRICE: $ 8.00 "Variegated Hindu Rope Waxflower" Orininally received from the legendary Ed Hummel: pink flower umbels dangle from the meandering stems completely invisible under the thick waxy wavy crinkly leaves, each with a bright cream border. Often called "Hoya compacta regalis."

56548 HOYA KERRII VARIEGATED SWEETHEARTASC HP TGH PRICE: $ 30.00A fabulous clone on which the thick succulent heart shaped leaves are margined a wide ivory-yellow. A strong growing clone from Thailand--not the difficult clone offered in the past.

60953 HOYA PINK SILVER [HORT.] ASC TGH HP PRICE: $ 5.50 Heavy waxy leaves strewn with silvery pink brushings on vigorous compact vine; clusters of fragrant blossoms not quite as easily produced as those of the H. carnosa tribe. Tolerant of less than ideal conditions; perfect lush decorative focal point on any windowsill; perhaps still the most satisyfing and visually stunning hanging basket subject of any of the "Wax Vines."

51072 HYMENOCALLIS CARIBEAE VARIEGATA AMARY TGH HP $ 12.00 "Caribbean Amaryllis" Evergreen foot-long waxy strap leaves with fantasticly beautiful wide rich ivory margins; Very showy cultivar demanding much warmth and constant moisture--actually prefers to be completely aquatic to produce the elaborate scented blossoms. If allowed to chill or slightly dry during the winter this bulb will drop its foliage, but the ivory edged strap leaves emerge again vigorously in the spring.

59255 IMPATIENS WALLERIANA ROBERT BURNS BAL CGH HP PRICE: $ 4.50 "Indiana Busy Lizzy" Selected by Robert Burns of Indiana (not of Scottland): wide bright deep lavender single blossoms set against the brightly creamy white margined foliage. Very distinctive wide low spreading habit; even more distinctive as no other richly variegated cultivar has this flower color.

40392 IMPATIENS WALLERIANA VARIEGATA BAL CGH HP PRICE: $ 4.00 "Variegated Sultana" Popular heirloom form of "Busy Lizzy" with slate green leaves margined white to frame soft pink-magenta fls on tall arching stems. Even though an old tall form, still earns its keep--recently "discovered" by Hosta and Heuchera collectors as a perfect "dot" plant harmonizing with the perennial colors with its own echoing variegations, while adding just a touch of very soft color with the soft hued single uncomplicated blossoms.

50040 JUSTICIA BRANDEGEANA VARIEGATA ACAN TGH PRICE: $ 4.25 "Snow Shrimp" Fabulous snowy white variegation on foliage fading to pure white margins; white bracts turn copper in bright light. Rare and striking sport. Not a totally successful houseplant unless you can provide the essential levels of humidity necessary to prevent spider mite. But with good light and a pebble tray this is a definite visual knock-out.
60748 KALANCHOE BOSSFELDIANA [HYB] CREAMED SCALLOPS CRA HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.75 Low mounding beauty: wide pale gray-green fleshy leaves with crenulate edges broadly margined white which do perfectly accent the seasonal fire engine red clusters of upfacing flowers. Flashy. Astoundingly easy to grow a handsome specimen of this hard to locate variegated version of the common blooming Kalanchoe--the green leaved version which you are most likely to find at your local grocery store cannot compete with this looker.

60390 KALANCHOE FEDTSCHENKOI MARGINATA CRA HP CGH PRICE: $ 4.25 "Aurora Borealis Plant" Scalloped purplish leaves margined in bright ivory, toned pink in high light. Beautiful.

60731 KALANCHOE GLAUCESCENS FRIELING'S SENSATION CRA HP TGH PRICE: $ 7.75 This salmon flowered clone has fleshy scalloped/crenate leaves strikingly margined with a white band developing pinkish tints in high light. This impressively variegated sport was found and selected, then reselected by Ken Frieling here at the Glasshouse Works--a quite distinct sport of a not unusual species which is a widely found native of Africa, India, & even Brazil. Of easy culture, only demanding excellent light saturation to produce the upright candelabra clusters of citris yellow flowers mid-winter.

60393 KALANCHOE HILDEBRANDTII CRA HP TGH PRICE: $5.25"Silver Teaspoons" perfect description of the platinum hair pelting the oval leaves with narrow petioles; these remarkable leaves are rigidly ranked on slim extremely erect stems. Madagascar native usually offered as K. orgyalis `Silver' (but orgyalis is a much larger statured, less symmetrically upright growing, more tannish toned plant) in the West Coast trade.

54362 LANTANA CAMARA WHITE DWARF VER CGH PRICE: $ 4.00 LIMITED AVAILABILITY A very compact nearly prostratein habit, small-leaved shrublet freely producing cute heads of rich white minute blossoms closely packed in heavy clusters--thus, the "Silver Mound" Lantana which is noted for lateral growth habit.

30267 MONSTERA DELICIOSA ALBO-VARIEGATA ARAC TGH HP PRICE: $ 95.00 "Variegated Splitleaf Philodendron" Wide windowed and split foliage splashed with clear white. Stunning if grown in high humitity conditions--the white areas will burn or rust if confronted with dry heat over a period of time.

50520 MURDANNIA ACUTIFOLIA VARIEGATA COMM HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.75 "Bamboo Spiderwort" Clumping jointed bamboo-like short stems of this vigorous houseplant hold elegantly arching reed-like boldly white-striped, glossy leaves. Outstanding specimen. After years of being an elusively hard to find greenhouse subject with constant popularity as a windowsill showoff, this "Bamboo Spiderwort" has recently entered the ranks of fab "NEW" plants used by avant designers of trendy patio urns, sophisticated windowboxes and intimately sized aquatic tubs where it continues to dazzle and charm.

53359 NEOREGELIA SCHULTSIANA CREAM FIREBALL BRO HP TG PRICE: $18.00 The fabulous carmine red compact urns of the species form, brilliantly accented with broad ivory cream margins. Needs bright light and good humidity to best form its colony of pert rosettes. Very beautiful; a fantastic visual effect remarkable for the ease of culture in achieving it.

40668 NERIUM OLEANDER VARIEGATUM PLENUM APO CGH HP PRICE: $ 10.00 The leathery long leaves are edged irregularly in ivory; the impressive clusters of flowers are double pink to lavender, streaked pale rose. Handsome. An older cultivar, yet very seldom offered in the trade. A major performer even in a limited space.

40678 OPHIOPOGON JAPONICUS ARITAKI LIL HP CGH PRICE: $ 4.75 "Silver Mist Lilyturf" with short narrow strap leaves richly lined in cream-white, pink tinted in high light. Rare because is slow to offset; considered at least Z7 hardy. Evidentally same as `Folius Albo-striatus.' Fabulous container subject. *Check the HARDY PLANT SECTION for offering of various other Ophiopogon species and cultivars.

40684 OPLISMENUS HIRTELLUS VARIEGATUS GRA CGH HP PRICE: $ 4.75 "Basket Grass" Pink, green, and white-striped leaves; trailing stems create a traditionally favorite hanging basket. Easy old favorite possibly more correct as O. africanus vittatus. While traditionally a house and greenhouse subject, this is quite wonderful added to urns and windowboxes for the summer displays as it is of a far more delicate habit (but very tough and resilient tolerating considerable exposure) than other tropical variegated grasses, thus lending a visually delicate fine textured spiller to a combination planting.

66049 OPUNTIA VULGARIS MONOCANTHA MONSTROSA VARIEGATA . CAC HP CGH PRICE: $6.25 "Marbled Maverick Cactus" Remains the dramatic vertically bold tropical Cactus most easily grown into a stunning piece of living sculpture--even on a sunny windowsill, as it has no seasons and no objections to fertilizer or heat. Rich ivory marbled slightly flattened pad clusters become pinkish-violet in high light. Beautiful, easy houseplant becoming very stunning in the added light of a hobby greenhouse.

66050 OPUNTIA VULGARIS VARIEGATA CAC HP CGH PRICE: $ 15.00 "Joseph's Coat" Long flattened white chocolate pads with random designs of green. Must have full light to survive. An oddity originally received from Hummel--not to be confused with the dwarf, much branched "Maverick Cactus."

51901 OXALIS REGNELLII DOROTHY CHAO OXA HP TGH PRICE: $ 8.50 A splendid "Silver Oxalis" sport from Dorothy Chao with splendidly large obtriangular leaves a glaucous milky green--most distinctive pewter hue beautifully complemented by clusters of palest lilac pink blossoms produced with abandon. Subtle power. Tends to catch the eye no matter how it is placed.

58715 PEDILANTHUS TITHYMALOIDES SPLISH SPLASH EUP HP TGH PRICE: $ 15.00 "Marbled Devil's Backbone" New from Thailand, this clone not only has strongly striped zig zag stems, but heavily textured ivory leaves splashed and marbled with intense deep green. We hope to keep up with the demand this season--it was astoundingly sought after last season.

67357 PEDILANTHUS TITHYMALOIDES VARIEGATUS EUP HP TGH PRICE: $ 5.00 "Variegated Devil's Backbone" Gray-green zig-zagged stems arch and bend under large puckered fleshy leaves margined in bright clear white; red bird beak/bill-shaped blossoms appear if grown in full sun in a cool (not freezing) winter greenhouse, or in a garden on the banks of the Rio Grande. Much larger statured, less self-branching than 'Smallii.'

53538 PEPEROMIA CAPERATA ARGENTEA PIP HP TGH PRICE: $ 6.00 "Silver Ripple" The waxed corrugated leaves solid silver-gray. "Caperata" means wrinkled. Bright cultivar of a favorite houseplant.

53545 PEPEROMIA CLUSIIFOLIA JELLIE PRICE: $ 4.25 "Jellie Plant" Upright "False Clusia" leaves brilliantly bordered in wide ivory bands toned pink. This is not uncommon, but it is one of the most astounding variegated forms of the Peperomia group.

53604 PEPEROMIA OBTUSIFOLIA ALBOMARGINATA PIP HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.75"Hummel White Cloud" Rippled, puckered waxy leaves margined ivory. Interesting petite habit heavily self branching to form a remarkable hemisphere of bright variegation tolerant of less than ideal levels of humidity. We received this stunning variegate from Ed Hummel in the 70s and have found the ongoing demand unflagging.

53150 PILEA GLAUCA URT HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.50 Carpeting "Silver Sprinkles" or gray artillery fern--very prostrate much branching stemlets with multitudes of tiny (barely a pea's width) glaucous oval leaves. A fabulous groundcover, perfect for terrariums or for dishgardens--proven in the latter as has proven remarkably tolerant of low humidity,.

56553 PILEA MICROPHYLLA VARIEGATA URT HP TGH PRICE: $7.50 Marvelous white toned new tear drop leaves foiled by darker foliage below; the "Snow Tipped Artillery Plant" produces "gunsmoke" pollen shots--cute beyond cute.

72792 PITTOSPORUM HETEROPHYLLUM MARGINATUM PIT HH PRICE: $ 15.00 A Chinese shrub with white margined foliage; with maturity this Z9 beauty produces small fragrant yellow flowers. Very petite in appearance, but quite sturdy--growing remarkably fast for a plant so heavily variegated.

40819 PITTOSPORUM TOBIRA VARIEGATUM PIT HP CGH PRICE: $ 4.00 "Tropical Mock Orange" Shrub with pseudo-whorls of glossy gray-green leaves margined white; orange-scented white flowers.

13041 PLATYCERIUM VEITSCHII LEMOINEI POLYPO CGH HP PRICE: $ 27.50 Robust French selection of this impressive "Staghorn Fern" with erect fronds covered with fabulous white tomentum--that is, a white pelted specimen. Beautiful when grown in a pot, but truely astounding when mounted on a plaque so that bright light and perfect air movement can bring out the fantastic white pelt.

42086 PLECTRANTHUS AMBOINICUS VARIEGATED LAB CGH HP PRICE: $ 4.75 "Margined Spanish Thyme" or "indian Borage" Arching stems present showy pairs of fleshy crenate leaves bordered in bright white. New aromatic shoots in tropical culinary use, as "Cuban Oregano"--Astounding as a hanging basket subject; splendid cascading from urns and windowboxes. Excellent for drama in the winter greenhouse as well because quite evergreen in nature.

54034 PLECTRANTHUS ARGENTATUS LAB HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.00 Strikingly beautiful native of Queensland, Australia, with cascading succulent stems cloaked with thick leaves heavily pelted silver-gray; used by Longwood Gardens in their famous Silver Garden. Perfect in baskets or pots; very popular in patio containers and tropical bedding currently.

41111 PLECTRANTHUS FOSTERI MARGINATUS LAB HP CGH PRICE: $ 4.50 "Giant Candle Plant" Erect square stems hold wide scalloped leaves richly margined white. Very showy specimen will light up a display urn or windowbox, a tropical bed or island, a group of standards, or a sunny windowsill. Nurseries offer this in an array of creative names, but we maintain the botanically recognized name established by the Kirstenbosch Botanic Gardens--after all it is their native.

41107 PLECTRANTHUS MADAGASCARIENSIS MARGINATUS LAB CGH PRICE: $ 3.00 "Variegated Mint Leaf" A confusingly identified form sold in the mid-west as "Basket Iboza" with fast-spreading, cascading soft stems covered with white-margined minty, serrate leaves. Formerly offered under the then correct name of P. coleoides marginatus minimus. Hard to keep up with the Mint tribe nomenclature.

41130 PLECTRANTHUS VERTICILLATUS (AUSTRALIS) LAB TGH HP PRICE: $ 3.75 Formerly P. nummularius and P. australis.. The ever popular "Swedish Ivy" vine with waxy crennate leaves in pairs on strong cascading stems eventually tipped with racemes of white flowers--technically the clusters of flowers are in verticillasters a half inch around. This is an old so-called "Victorian Favorite." It is often seen in some areas of the country as a patio hanging basket plant. It works well in the home also.

50079 PSEUDERANTHEMUM [ERANTHUM] ALBO-MARGINATUM ACAN TGH HP PRICE: $ 15.00 Very distinctive plant from KSG Farms. Erect stems with long leaves marbled with milky green & slate gray with broad bold white borders. Stunning new introduction to USA horticulture. Also listed as Graptophyllum pictum alba variegata.

42271 SALVIA DISCOLOR LAB CGH PRICE: $5.50 "Peruvian Silver Sage" Silvery gray stems studded with pairs of tidy silver-pelted leaves--giving a hoary-edged effect to the sage green lf tops; very dark violent purple-maroon hooded blossoms with a faint currant fragrance appear late winter. Excellent performer in the sunny cool hobby greenhouse.

68434 SANSEVIERIA TRIFASCIATA BANTEL'S SENSATION PRICE: $ 18.00 White and ocher-cream stripes with occasional yellow and dark green furrows accent the very erect succulent leaves; the "White Snakeplant" typically has a narrow green edge. 1940s laurentii sport originating in St. Louis. Because this is a trifasciata cultivar, the leaves are far more erectly rigid, of thicker substance, and often more numerous per head than those of Sansevieria 'Manolin' with which it seems to be occassionally confused among hobbyists. Avoid chill as the leaves are so extremely variegated that brown spots soon appear if exposed to cold temperatures. This has long been among the most popular rare Sansevierias we offer.

68230 SANSEVIERIA TRI~ GRAY LADY AGA HP TGH PRICE: $ 12.00Narrow upright leaves of gray-green (not silvery) usually edged in darker green; compact upright; not 'Silver Queen'-- Manda's `Plumbea' and the Florida `Silver Parva' apparently alternative trade names. One of the best dwarf forms.

68194 SANSEVIERIA TRIFASCIATA HAHNII SILVER FROST AGA HP TGH PRICE: $ 35.00 SOLD OUT UNTIL 2010 Small rosettes of corrugated, embossed leaves of gray-green irregularly striped silver-gray, cream-yellow, ochre, and edged in darker green. No two offsets are precisely alike. Must be kept perfectly drained & constantly warm. Tempermental: given to fits of rot if allowed to chill. Best grown in litegardens.

77236 SANSEVIERIA TRIFASCIATA MOONSHINE AGA HP TGH PRICE: $ 10.00 Also marketed from time to time as `Silver Moon' or `Moonglo.' Handsome large open vase of creamy silver-green wide overlapping leaves--certainly one of the most beatiful of all the truely reliable houseplants. European introduction of obscure derivation; always a visual treat. Has the same habit as 'Futura,' but there the similarity ends!

60466 SEDUM LINEARE VARIEGATUM CRA CGH HP HH PRICE: $ 4.25 "Star Sedum" Soft much-branched ascending stems are covered with soft white-margined leaves; Its low mat-forming quality makes this a common cascading basket subject and a natural for succulent wreaths. Cool winters trigger this Japanese species to cover itself with starry yellow flowers late spring. Although listed in various books as Z6 or Z7 winter hardy, it has never survived a winter here outdoors. We list it as a tropical, but it is often used in the south as a perennial.

60469 SEDUM MAKINOI MARGINATUM CRA CGH HH HP PRICE: $ 4.00 "Snow Ladder" General habit and character of S. lineare, but the white-edged shingled spatulate leaves are rounded--overlapping on trailing soft stems to form "stairways"; yellow flowers. Japanese native much used by wreath designers and basic in succulent dish gardens.

11413 SELAGINELLA MARTENSII ALBOLINEATA SEL HP TERR PRICE: $6.75 "Snowy Club Moss" Arched, yet creeping, prostrate brittle, much-divided stems winged with scale-like glossy leaves with irregular patches of pure bright white--astoundingly beautiful. Mexican species for the larger terrarium. Rare cultivar yet not difficult given good humidity.

41905 SENECIO MACROGLOSSUS VARIEGATUS COMP HP CGH PRICE: $ 8.00 "Ivory Cape Ivy" or "Turtle Ivy" The Waxy lobed leaves are margined bright cream-ivory; showy heads of yellow daisy flowers are produced at the tips of the vines late winter. Not a strong grower during the summer--we prefer to ship this during the cooler part of the fall as the leaves tend to become mush if shipped during warm periods.

55475 SETARIA PALMIFOLIA RUBRA VARIEGATA PAN TGH PRICE: $ 12.00 Clumping "Malaysian Palm Grass" with short knotted, branched stalks clothed with wide pleated emerald blades brightly margined white flashy against the rose-maroon leaf sheaths. Attractive irregular bottlebrush spikes late fall. Amazingly beautiful. Astoundingly popular for a plant seldom featured in any magazine or plant book.

31476 SPATHIPHYLLUM DOMINO [HYB] ARAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 5.00 We have various "Variegated Peace Lily" selections, but this is the most vibrantly streaked, mottled, richly colored one of all--with thick foliage tightly erect forming a compact clumping habit. Super. Our clone is from Milestone Pat#9944

40927 STENOTAPHRUM SECUNDATUM VARIEGATUM GRA HP PRICE: $ 3.75 "St. Augustine Grass" Stoloniferous basket trailer with Art Deco blunt-tipped blades banded white. Vigorous. This does well in situations that Chlorophytum cultivars grow in, if you have a bright window. It was if great as a summertime porch plant.

20263 STREPTOCARPELLA SAXORUM ALBA {VARIEGATA} GES HP CGH PRICE: $ 5.50 "Variegated Dauphin Violet" Plush-haired succulent leaves emerge white on much-branched cascading stems; azure blue flowers dance on slim stems. Handsome East African native. The pale foliage fades to soft green for a two tone effect.

60949 STROMANTHE SANGUINEA TRICOLOR MAR HP TGH PRICE: $ 12.50 Thick waxy deep jade leaves richly slashed with rouged ivory and pink tones, with grenadine reverses displayed in showy fans; tiny white flowers in red bracts. A knock out: fantastically variegated but not to be confused with Ctenanthe oppenheimiana tricolor, which see.

30423 SYNGONIUM PODOPHYLLUM ALBO-VARIEGATUM ARAC HP PRICE: $ 9.75 "French marble" "White Butterfly" Irregular patches of pure paperwhite on deep green arrowhead leaves. Easy and beautiful. The most popular every year.

71949 SYNGONIUM PODOPHYLLUM HOLLY M ARAC HP PRICE: $4.50 Fab "White Arrowhead" with new very pale leaves emerging pewter white with elegant mint edges. Most striking and dramatic presence.

99611 SYNGONIUM PODOPHYLLUM IVORY ARAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 12.00 Slow growing abbreviated vine with unusually large arrowhead leaves of near white faintly airbrushed with lime. So very pale as to need greenhouse humidity to prevent tip burn--we most certainly cannot recommend this as a houseplant. Remarkable, even if not care free!

30496 SYNGONIUM PODOPHYLLUM WHITE BUTTERFLY ARAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 5.00 Popular selection of this Mexican species with young green arrow-head leaves, veined bright white, gradually fading to soft white with lime margins. Tends not to stretch like many.

60793 TALINUM PANICULATUM PATENS (PANICULATUM) VARIEGATUM POR HP TGH PRICE: $ 5.00 "Fame Flower" or "Jewels of Opar" Slender erect stems bear obovate ivory-margined fleshy leaves; terminal pinkish-red flowers followed by berries create a haze of color much prized by designers. A Caribbean native, so avoid winter chills. A wonderful addition to any outdoor container, windowbox, even bedding as the clear white variegation brings out the intensity of any nearby foliar colors--plus, a beautiful pot subject by itsself, performing quite contentedly on a sunny windowsill.

59253 TEUCRIUM FRUTICANS LAB HH CGH PRICE: $ 5.25 Impressive "Tree Germander" Mediteranean easily shaped shrubs of silvery-gray foliage beautiful with the blue winter flowers, not produced in the north unless protected. Foliage prized in mixed summer containers; but traditionally a basic subject as a staked topiary standard--just stake a central stem, and pinch and prune relentlessly once you decide it it tall enough to receive a poodle top.

31312 THUNBERGIA GRANDIFLORA ALBA ACAN TGH PRICE: $ 7.50 The rarely offered "Bengal Clock Vine" selection with large white trumpet shaped blossoms in elegant clusters; Indian native "Sky Flower" a clambering shrub developing woody stem with age. This is available as a a special order item. It may take a month or two to get this ready for your order, Please contact us as to availability.

51737 THUNBERGIA GRANDIFLORA VARIEGATA ACAN TGH PRICE: $ 12.00 Remarkable "Banded Bengal Trupet" shared by David Biggar with showy broad creamy white borders on each dramatic leaf; same blue violet trumpet flowers as the species form of this most favorite of conservatory vines. We have considerably reduced the original price because this is far easier to grow than we anticipated--if you have limited space in your greenhouse why not grow this clone to achieve beautiful foliage for continued drama between bloom cycles. Again, to successfully bloom this beauty, set up an area where the root base (in a container, or in the ground) will not be disturbed for an extended period.

50537 TRADESCANTIA ALBIFLORA ALBO-VITTATA COM HP PRICE: $ 3.75 "Giant White Inch Plant" Beautiful white-striped leaves closely packed on succulent stems which form new stalks from a common rootstalk, unlike most of this genus.

50532 TRIPOGANDRA FALSE BROMELIAD [HORT] COMM HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.25 "Streaked False Bromeliad" Introduced initially as a Callisia but more likely to be Hadrodemas warscewicsiana striata (which sounds rather terminal). Large upright whorled cups of tightly overlapping white-streaked fleshy leaves. A very popular, handsome plant even if of uncertain nomenclature. Showy--your friends will not believe this is a Spiderwort until the branched inflorescence appears with the cute three petaled flowers.

54064 VITEX TRIFOLIATA VARIEGATA VER CGH PRICE: $ 15.00 The crinkled leaflets of this "Verbena Tree" are margined in clear bright white--with maturity this beautifully variegated woody slim shrub produces clusters of showy fls. Native to South Asia into Australia, this striking shrub-tree performs well outdoors in the deep subtropical south; nonetheless, it also is quite striking as a container plant in the north, certainly a natural for training into a spectacular standard.

30437 XANTHOSOMA ATROVIRENS VARIEGATUM MONSTROSUM ARAC TGH PRICE: $ 28.00 "Mouse Cup" "Pocket Plant" Incredibly grotesque bluegreen arrowhead leaves, splashed with white and heavily ridged, are fused at the tip into pockets sporting long surreal tails. Only dormant if temperatures are chill in your winter greenhouse. Likes wet feet during the growth periods.

31252 ZANTEDESCHIA AETHIOPICA IVORYARAC CGH PRICE: $ 4.50 Fleshy rich green foliage perfect for the large ivory white "Calla Lily" blossoms; best performance in the cool winter greenhouse with ample sun; nonetheless, our customers often grow it in a moist to boggish location in full sun outdoors during the summer and it blooms! Some plants will simply not read the text books (alone read my meandering pronouncements) . . .

53042 ZINGIBER ZERUMBET DARCEYI ZIN TGH HP PRICE: $15.00 "Variegated Bitter Ginger" Brilliant white bordered leaves with occassional white bands; turns pink in full light. A winter dormant species from India. As the underground tuber gaines mass as it matures, it will produce its showy flower spike as the new foliage emerges in the spring. Please do not tell us in the Fall that your plant has died. It goes dormant in its native monsoonal climate and it will maintain that cycle no matter what.
