Brazilian species of modest size with the endearing habit of producing plantlets along the bloom clusters creating tuffets of bronzy leaves midair. Does not demand the constant humidity and does not brown as the soil ages with accumulations of salts as do some of its more spectacular brethern.

Somewhat longer & darker leaves than Ballyii, but also needing the succulent culture of Ballyii & Cyanotis. Flourishes with full light and perfect drainage. Coddling can kill.

Upright cupped whorls of purple-edged leaves give character of "False Bromeliad"; multiple cascading runners effective in hanging basket use. Vigorous Mexican native with scented spiderwort flowers on impressively branched infloresences usually occurring mid-winter. Considered medicinal.

If wintered over, expect cute clusters of early rosy violet, fluffy, rayed flowers. Perfect in containers and borders. Not a Senecio or Artemisia, although a visual mimic of both through and through--and more reliable than these other genera because this can tolerate midsummer heat and humidity without the mushy scars suffered by other "Dusty Miller" types. Marketed in England sometimes as 'Colchester White' this starts out as a spindly silvery stalk and finishes as a full bodied dramatic knock-out in any garden or container design given full sun and elbow room.

Needs sun and humidity to perform well, thus sometimes a challenge as a houseplant.

Demands bright light & even moisture for best results (not an ideal houseplant)--a traditional favorite in northern hobby greenhouses as produces much interest in mid-winter flower & late spring fruit with very low maintenance.

50009 CHAMAERANTHEMUM VENOSUM ACAN HP TGH PRICE: $8.00 "India Plant" is a low growing beautiful Brazilian native with leathery flat leaves with silver netting. Small stature and dramatic coloring assure its continuing popularity as a basic in any terrarium. 58422 CHAMAEROPS HUMILIS PALMAE HP TGH PRICE: $ 15.00 "Dwarf Fan Palm." In all Western Mediterranean Countries, where it grows spontaneously, the leaves of the Dwarf Fan Palm are always utilised for various kinds of wickerwork. Its buds are employed as food (palm-cabbage), chiefly in North Africa, but also in Sicily where it is known as "ciafagghiuni". Another of those semi-hardy palms that some try to get through in their gardens in Zones 7 (and with lots of care) Zone 6. We consider it one of our tropicals. This price reflects the challenge of packing this bad boy.

This belongs in the short "Toy Category" of the tribe as it reliably slowly clumps, never throwing out long arching shoots with plantlets. Has to be in the top ten of the "I will survive" houseplants!

14106 CISSUS DISCOLOR VIT TGH PRICE: $ 7.75 "Rex Begonia Vine" Cambodian species with velvety quilted green-violet leaves with elevated silver areas highlighted by rouged veins--and complemented by a glowing maroon underleaf. Even in greenhouse, this will definitely rest during winter, shedding its leaves and extended vine stems, but maintaining the thick nearly tuberous central base and soft trunk during which period you need to keep it barely moist. Do not let it completely dry out during this period or you will observe the terminal dormancy of this fantastically beautiful species. This is a difficult plant. We try to send good plants out during the warmer months. If the plants do not do well for you, we are not responsible. This plant is a beauty, but a challenge to grow. Good luck.

Woody erect stems with dramatic pairs of heavy wide leaves terminate in lovely bouquets of double white hydrangea-like white blossoms fading to shell pink for a truely Victorian look. In North best grown as conservatory subject; winter dormant if kept cool; nonetheless, ours in the warm conservatory grow & bloom all winter--and the foliage is dramatically soft, the impressive clusters of flowers . . . simply breathtakingly beautiful, earning itself a place in any larger hobby greenhouse and in every conservatory.

41244 CLERODENDRON INDICUM VER CGH HH PRICE: $ 12.00 "Turk's Turban" or "Tubeflower" Erect woody hollow stems are ringed with whorls of wide leaves and white tubular flowers (thus called "Cathedral Bells") on long (even up to two feet) terminal spikes followed by blue fruit. An odd one--often the hollow stems reach 12 feet before setting their teriminal flower spikes. Every so often we consider not offering this as the height is daunting; and then it blooms and all is forgiven.

69021 CLERODENDRON THOMSONIAE VER TGH HP PRICE: $ 4.25 The dark leaves paired on this attrative vine decorated with terminal clusters of inflorescence of odd "Bag Flower" white calyxes from which emerge brilliant red "Bleeding Heart" corollas. A traditional favorite from the very warm Cameroon, thus will lose foliage if kept cool during the winter; but can bloom throughout the seasons if kept evenly warm, well fertilized, and given adequate access to sunlight.
