Needs high humidity and very even temperatures so that a large terrarium would make the perfect home. Sold with PPAF tag. A highly promoted "rex" type which, while stunningly beautiful, constitutes a considerable challenge to growers not familiar with the "rex" tribe's demand for constant adequate humidity, perfect drainage in very fibrous mixes, and bright indirect lighting; as with most of this tribe, a mid summer and a mid winter "rest" is typical behavior with potential radical loss of foliage, soon replaced with a new flush of growth within a month or so. We emphatically do not recommend this challenging (though fabulously beautiful) Begonia as the first Begonia you have ever tried to grow!

We received this some years ago from Sydney Botanic Gardens via California's Quail Botanical Garden and are amused that this rather modest plant is now being aggressively marketed as the "Piss Off" or "Scardy Cat" plant reputed to keep cats (and even dogs) at bay. This does not work well here in our observations, but then, none of our cats seems particularly daunted by the canine tribe. Could be that the staff cats consider themselves to be feline rather than canine?

88982 DENDRENTHEMUM [CHRYSANTHEMUM] AOI COMP HH CGH PRICE: $ 4.25 Upright "Ise Mum" type with woody stem(s) best staked; topped with remarkable orchid pink (fading to lavender) spidery eyelash blossoms with a startling yellow eye nestled at center; fern foliage. "Lavender Spider" for late fall flowers--if you are a northern grower, this will be a remarkable subject for a cool fall greenhouse or bright sunny plantroom. Removing side flower buds from the terminal stem will channel all energy to the terminal bud, resulting in an over the top size blossom.

61716 FATSIA JAPONICA SPIDER'S WEB ARAL HP PRICE: $12.00 The wide leathery palmate leaves are brilliantly frosted white on the margins, with startling effect. Beautiful, yet easily grown as is winter hardy in the deep South, yet, as it willingly accomodates to container growing, is an excellent houseplant (especially for that chilly entryway or cool glassed in porch); we puts three plants in a large shallow urn for summer duty on the deck, and winter duty in a chilly porch with a batch of Clivia and Pelargoniums--seems to work just fine. This fabulouly beautiful selection was named by Mr. Hirose of variegation book fame. Quite amazing when the branched button bush (Ivy like) flower heads develop with maturity.

From india, prefers constant warmth and even moisture in an epiphytic mix. If ordered to be sent during a less warm period of the year, we typically send as an URCutting in dry moss so it will travel without chance of rot. Formerly Caralluma frerea, a great favorite among lite gardeners, as it thrives in such environments.
