TERRARIUM PLANTS FOR REGULAR TO SMALL TERRARIUMS
RARER AND MORE UNUSUAL TERRARIUM PLANTS
LARGE, WARDIAN CASE TERRARIUM PLANTS

RARER & MORE UNUSUAL TERRARIUM PLANTS

99553 TERRARIUM COLLECTION--RARE SELECTIONS: For five extremely special plants for only $25.00 This collection includes miniature items like the previous collection, but the base cost of the items chosen is slightly higher. If you have a terrarium and want to add to it, this is your item number. If you want specific rare plants for your terrarium, here are some suggestions bellow.

Don't forget that we also offer several odd ferns and miniature philodendrons that would thrive in your terrarium. Find them in the green box at the bottom of the page under "Ferns" and "P2".

10008 ADIANTUM CAPILLLUS-VENERIS SCINTILLA POLYP CGH HP $ 8.75 Small-statured form with erect bold pinnae with edges that are narrowly crested and fimbriate--these closely held in plume effect as the frond is held erect by wiry purple stems. Considered a sterile clone. Perhaps the most arrestingy original and rare "Maidenhair Fern" we offer--although we are not sure most maidens would wish their hair to too closely resemble this topsy turvy outline. Perhaps a punk maiden.

30609 ANTHURIUM LUXURIANS [HORT] ARAC TGH $ 15.00 Fabulous foliage of quilted pewter--if you do not grow in a greenhouse we suggest this be grown in a terrarium or Wardian case.

30147 ANTHURIUM RADICANS ARAC HP TERR $ 17.50 We now have limited numbers of large plants available. Prostrate creeping dwarf species with metalic pustulate leaves. creating a waffled carpet in a large terrarium or as a low light houseplant grown in a pebble tray; absolutely fabulous in a Wardian Case. This is often in limited availability as is so slow growing; please check.

56803 ANTHURIUM RADICANS X DRESSLERII ARAC HP TERR $ 25.00 Not available until 2008; so many people have ordered this item that we are temporarily SOLD OUT. This is the fabulous hybrid of Anthurium radicans (with its wonderful puckered leaves and thick leaves) and the higher altitude puckered beauty, Anthurium dresslerii. This hybrid owes more to the dresslerii parent we think because of the the self heading habit (not the creeping rhizome of the standard A. radicans) and the beautiful puckered leaves with the added beautifu of the cranberry color of the emerging leaves. This seems to have the robust growth of a first generation hybrid. We recommend this beautiful plant. This is often in limited availability as is so slow growing; but right now for the 2008 season we have a moderately good supply. See the pictures.

56909 BEGONIA MINI MERRY CHRISTMAS BEG CGH TERR $ 6.25 (rex) Probably more accurately 'Mini Merry'. Tuffets of tiny lime leaves with pink blushed silvery areas pillowed beteen the radiant veins ; raspberry toned margins. Woodriff hybrid still quite sought after by terrarium fanciers.

56113 BEGONIA ROYAL LUSTRE [HYB] BEG TERR TGH $ 8.00 (rz) Outstanding miniature: tiny pea green & purple leaves with irregular shimmering silver overlay rivaling any rex; famous Yorke hybrid with palest pink flowers. A brilliant jewel in any terrarium. This is a tiny plant and you will receive a tiny plant.

41352 CALATHEA LIETZEI MAR TGH HP $ 6.00 Arching undulate oval bottomed lance lvs of dark bronzed velvet with pale midribs and olive stripes. Brazilian species of modest size with the endearing habit of producing plantlets along the bloom clusters creating tuffets of bronzy leaves midair. Does not demand the constant humidity and does not brown as the soil ages with accumulations of salts as do some of its more spectacular breathern.

40093 CALATHEA RUFIBARBA [ACCUMINATA] MAR TGH TERRARIUM $ 7.50 Erect hirsute cinnamon leaves, purplish reverse; dense clumper.

66900 CALATHEA THAI BEAUTY MAR TERR TGH $ 50.00 Remarkable bold cream & lime variegation creating a different irregular pattern on each upward whorled leaf. Most probably in the C. lietzei complex. While many (most) Calatheas are highly patterned and colored, this is the only selection of which we are aware which is technically "variegated."

71451 EUONYMUS JAPONICA MICROPHYLLA RYKUJO CEL H $ 18.00 Very tiny columns of ranked overlapping tinsy leathery lvs form tightly congested multi-towered vegetable fairy castles in perfect scale for ladybug soldiers to man the rampards; still unrivaled for the especially small exquisite trough or bonsai pot mame subject. (Difficult: do not allow to dry out completely--there are no second chances given.)
51732 FICUS BENJAMINA MINI LUCIE MOR HP TGH $ 20.00 The small statured "Serpentine Fig" with zigzagging woody glossy stems winged with deep green downturned small leather leaves. Unusual selection for the wavy gravy collector.

40372 HYDNOPHYTUM FORMICARIUM RUB HP TGH $ 25.00 Unique epiphytic caudiform with very swollen tuberous base with access tunnels; very short trunks bear waxy flowers followed by shiny red fruits; excellent houseplant for a consistently warm location with high humidity and epiphytic treatment. This can only be shipped during quite warm months; very sensitive to cool conditions.

59411 MACODES PETOLA GES HP TGH $ 10.00 Wonderful new Jewel Orchid to go along with the pink-striped Haemaria discolor under lights or in terrariums.

41701 MAXILARIA TENUIFOLIA ORC HP TGH $ 25.00 Series of fat oval pseudobulbs with leaf tufts send forth clusters of showy coppery red fls patterned with yellow, white and maroon. Small winter-blooming Orchid easy to grow in porch garden, hobby greenhouse, or under lights.

30287MONSTERA STANLEYANA VARIEGATA ARAC HP TGH $ 15.00 Rich ivory splashes on elongated, round tipped leaves; very beautiful selection of this scandent vine shingled with soft leathery foliage of deep green slashed with ivory white. The foliage remains quite small and the internodes long (even extended at times) on this demure species most at home in a terrarium. Most emphatically NOT the more famous Monstera deliciosa with its giant windowed leaves and clusters of fruit.

40651 MYRMACODIA PLATYREA VER TGH HP $ 25.00 Odd caudiciform from the tropics which is host to stinging ants. Odd in every aspect. Never allow to chill for even a day; best grown on a treefern plaque or pot.

14026 NEPHROLEPIS CORDIFOLIA KINKY POLYP HP TGH $ 22.00 Rigorously erect dwarf fronds barely unfurl their deep emerald dusky-bearded leaflets. Much smaller, more compact than similarly leathery-fronded 'Floral Fantasy'--but also very slow growing and intolerant of shade and thus recommended for the advanced fern collector.

58358 OECEOCLADES ROSEO-VARIEGATUM ORC TGH $ 38.00Distinctive succulent Madagascar Orchid with prostrate succulent pseudobulbs forming a ground hugging chain with the terminal sporting a pair of leathery highly ornamentally maculated leaves. Tiny blossoms. Requires patience.

40690 OXALIS ALSTONII [HEDYSAROIDES RUBRA] OXA TERR HP $ 6.25 "Firefern" Branched wiry purple stems hold whorls of reddish maroon leaflets and nearly everblooming yellow fls. Excellent windowsill subject; typically growing better in the window or under lights than in the greenhouse. Do not overpot nor overwater.

41645 OXALIS RIO DE JANERIO [SPECIES AFFINITY TO O. DISPAR] $ 8.75 New crop for 2008. Remarkable unidentified collection from the mountain sides of Rio with erect wiry stems topped with thick diamond boat-shaped lvs, in threes, each with shimmering silvery dreamy central variegation. Cute cheerful yellow blossoms, thus the "Goldie Locks" plant perfect for window ledge, under lights, as well as a patio pot plant during the summer. Eventually creating its own miniature "standard" shape on its wiry woody stem unless you pinch the growing tip to encourage branching. A gem for any light gardener; quickly winning over designers of terrarium landscapes as well. Quite a jewel in a terrarium or Wardian Case plant combination. Sometime called Oxalis Silver & Gold.

53532 PEPEROMIA BUNTINGII PIP HP TGH $ 8.00 "Blue Watermelon Peperomia". Bluish-emerald toned leaves richly veined and patterned, form thick whorls of compact mounds; although appearing delicate, the jade like succulent leaves can easily tolerate somewhat lower humidity than expected.

53597 PEPEROMIA MERIDANA MACULATA PIP HP TGH $5.00 A variegated "Pixie." Splashed and slashed with cream and yellow--a Glasshouse Works selection from a sport that Frieling discovered here.

53629 PEPEROMIA ORBA PIP HP TGH $ 3.75 "Princess Astrid" Dwarf-statured with multiple crowns of waxy spoon like leaves--soon forming a charming waxy tuffet; easy tinsy houseplant with unknown origin-- the name "orba" meaning "orphan." A basic for your terrarium companions.

23784 PEPEROMIA PROSTRATA PIP HP TGH $ 5.50 "Prostrate Peperomia" New listing for 2008. Sometimes called minima or rotundifolia. We have another dwarf creeper called P. rotundifolia, so we prefer to call this P. prostata. This is a great ground cover or even small hanging basket plant. We recommend this for the windowsill or for the small spot you want a little jewel of a plant. This also does well under lights. Can be grown on moss also.

58332 PILEA DARK MYSTERY [SPECIES]URT TGH TERR $ 7.75 The eyecatching "Pewter Pilea" (unidentified species) with a low spreading habit. Short succulent maroon stems crowded with elongated dark pewter leaves richly quilted by spruce green depressed veins and toothed deep green margins.

56553 PILEA MICROPHYLLA VARIEGATA URT HP TGH $7.50 Marvelous white toned new tear drop leaves foiled by darker foliage below; the "Snow Tipped Artillery Plant" produces "gunsmoke" pollen shots--cute beyond cute.

54343 POLYSCIAS GUILFOYLEI QUINQUEFOLIA ARAL HP TGH $ 8.50 Woody bonsai trunks accented wtih frilled and crested foliage; thus "Celerly Leaf Panax".

12232 QUERCIFELIX ZEYLANICUS POLYP CGH TERR $ 18.00 "Oak Leaf Creeper" Dwarf fern from Ceylon with dimorphic fronds held very low and tight. Terrarium Fern--very slow growing; very shallow wiry roots; must have high levels of humidity and fibrous media. This gem is a collector's excuse to start a Wardian case.

40915 SAXIFRAGA STOLONIFERA TRICOLOR SAX TERR CGH R $ 6.75 "Magic Carpet" Wide gray and Ivory margins with pink tones & fine red edging on scalloped leaf edges; lovely in any terrarium and spledidly colored under lights--be sure your soil is sweet, be sure the temperatures are not too high. A bit of honesty: this can be very slow and quite difficult unless given the special conditions it demands.

30542 SCINDAPSIS EXOTICA [SPECIES] ARAC TGH HP $ 22.00 Newly offered from the new robust clone; this looks just like the slower growing clone we have had for years. Possibly because of meristeming, this clone grows robustly and has all the same earmarks of the original plant. Order this at the new lower price. Leathery wide lance leaves of glossy grey green, nearly obscured with bright aluminum grey. Remarkable and beautiful "Exotic Pothos" neither a Pothos, nor Raphiodophora Exotica.

11656 SELAGINELLA MARTENSII FROSTY SEL HP TERR $ 8.00 "Frosted Club Moss" Arched, yet creeping, prostrate brittle, much-divided stems winged with scale-like glossy leaves with new growth and tipe growth Frosted cream to white. Mexican species for the larger terrarium. New cultivar yet not difficult given good humidity.

11478 SELAGINELLA UMBROSA SEL HP TERR $ 15.00 "Red Clubmoss" Dark reddish stems give bronze mahagony tone to the abbreviated deep green leaves; tossled waves of short foliage make this Mexican a collector's choice. Small statured plants. Avoid extreme heat and deep shade.

50534 SIDERASIS FUSCATA COMM HP TGH $ 15.00"Brown Spiderwort" or "Bear Ears" Thick rosettes of fabulous rusty-haired wide chocolate leaves with central silver band, brilliantly described as resembling a "Gay 90's sofa cushion". Needs warmth and perfect drainage to flourish.

30403 SPATHICARPA SAGITTIFOLIA ARAC HP $ 10.00 "Caterpillar Flower" Low growing mounds of soft arrowhead leaves with very unusual flowers of curved lime green slim rolled spathe with a fused "caterpillar-like" spadix of bug green. Easy small-statured houseplant from Argentina. Should be far more popular than it is currently.

53394 TILLANDSIA CYANEA ALBO-VARIEGATA BROM TGH $ 38.00 A new cultivar of the fabulous Pink Quill. This variety has white margins on the leaves. A great new plant for you collection. 53341 TILLANDSIA CYANEA ANITA [HYB] BRO HP TGH $ 12.75 Highy colored branched version of the popular cyanea--attractive small tuffets of deeply arched deep green leathery slim leaves (like a very friendly hedgehog) from which emerge the dramatic wide violet pink "Pink Feather" comb of bracts along which emerge, over a period of time, the cute blue (cyane) blossoms. Unlike most species, this is semi-terrestial, easily grown in a pot of orchid bark; often marketed growing out of an ornamental seashell.

53395 TILLANDSIA CYANEA MEDIO-PICTA BROM TGH $ 40.00 A new cultivar of the fabulous Pink Quill. This variety has yellow to cream central sections on the leaves. A great new plant for you collection. 40968 VELLOZIA [TALBOTIA] ELEGANS VEL HP TGH $ 15.00 Short branching mounds of bright glossy keeled leaves of rich green and delicate nodding Amaryllis-like small blossoms white yet toned pink and green; marvelous native of the Natal. An evergreen gem sometimes called Talbotia elegans.

PLANTS FOR LARGE TERRARIUMS (WARDIAN CASES)

90234 TERRARIUM: WARDIAN CASE COLLECTION-- LARGER SIZED SELECTIONS: For the wonderful larger scaled speciality (such as the H. Potter line) terrariums pictured on our website (check the links at the bottom of the page at http//:www.glasshouseworks.com/gardenart.html), you will need the slightly fuller plants of this collection, especially as several will be chosen for height. 10 appropriate humidity lovers for $35.00 This collection might include items for a slightly larger terrarium or slightly more unusual items.

Here are some specific suggestions to order individually for your larger terrarium.

10014 ADIANTUM PERUVIANUM POLYP TERR TGH $ 5.50 "Silver Dollar Maidenhair Fern" Large dramatic species with pink toned new foliage hardening into rich green arching fronds. Must have high humidity to perform well--loves a large Wardian Case as its home; nonetheless, if given a cool bright windowsill and a pebble tray, it will also become (given several years) an impressive specimen; always a star in any hobby greenhouse.

11438 ALSOPHILA COOPERII [CYATHEA AUSTRALIS] CYT CGH $10.00 "Australian Tree Fern" Young plants present a spreading canopy of metallic deep green arching fronds supported by a cinnamon trunk; eventually a massive stunning specimen. Although we recommend greenhouse culture in our climate, some customers have successfully grown this as a house or large Wardian Case specimen, always keeping constant levels of humidity. We have grown this to a most impressive size on a sunny porch, glass enclosed during the winter.

30125 ANTHURIUM MICKEY MOUSE [HYB] ARAC HP TGH $ 15.00 Dwarf hybrid with delightful shinny scarlet fls flared out into ear-like lobes tinted greenish; clumping habit. Growth is like a compact andreanum, but with an Obake blossom shape which can be successfully produced in normal houseplant conditions unlike most of the Obake types. Recommended for those who long for success without standing over a plant with a mister. We also offer Anthurium Hawaiian Butterfly, which is so similiar that we sometimes send the latter. You will get one or the other, whichever is available at the time.

30146 ANTHURIUM POLYSCHISTUM ARAC TGH TERR $ 25.00 "Copper Vine" Strong vining copper stems (upwardly mobile) wanly support coppery green ruffled palmate leaves. Prefers the high humidity of a greenhouse or a wardian case to prevent tip burn; avoid direct sunlight.

56815 ANUBIAS COFFEEFOLIA ARAC TGH $ 6.25 Beautiful prostarte growing African "Water Aspidistra" with beautiful deep green coffee mimic leaves shingled along the creeping stem; a bog native with odd lime toned spathes. Perfect in any larger terrarium or in a wet situation.

11553 ASPLENIUM GOUDEYII POL HP TGH $ 6.50 New introduction in the birds nest group of ferns, similar to Asplenium nidus and Asplenium Antiquum, but the leaves are more like rubber and the stature is shorter. This is an amazing little Bird's nest fern. We recommend because it does not need high humidity and extra care--yet perfect in a Wardian Case design.

11408 ASPLENIUM NIDUS ANTIQUUM OSAKA POL HP TGH $ 5.50 Decorative "Japanese Birdsnest Fern" form with elegant slim fronds with wavy ruffled margins, forming bowl-shaped specimens thriving in high-light areas, tolerating low humidity. Gives a Shirly Temple tone to your ferns.

56910 BEGONIA DEJA THORUS BEG TERR CGH $ 6.50 (rz) Fabluous silver nacre leaves with elegantly frilled and fluted margins. Great in a Wardian Case.
56513 BEGONIA EXOTICA BEG HP $ 10.00 Amazing cranberry foliage. A difficult plant to keep. Needs high humidity so a purchase of a Wardian Case will insure a fabulous specimen. Limited availability at times, so please inquire to find when the next set will be shipped--none can be mailed successfully durning hot parts of the year as is extremely intolerant of high temperatures. If you are unable to wait for a successful window of opportunity for shipping, please consider other Begonias for your greenhouse or terrarium.

59422 BEGONIA SOLI-MUTATA BEG TGH TERR $ 6.00 (rz) Very lovely low statured primadonna with very wide rich cinnamon green pebbled (cordate outline with bullate surface) leaves, reddish beneath, accented with pale lime veins. Extremely popular Brazilian with white flowers for designers of wardian cases and large terrariums--and for lite gardeners.

56884 BEGONIA WILD FURY BEG CGH TERR $ 10.00 (rex) Extremely whirpooled dark satiny leaves with showy extravagant silver dapplings and dots with dark ruby toned heart and chocolate staned margins. Needs adequate levels of humidity--best in a large Wardian case.

40093 CALATHEA RUFIBARBA [ACCUMINATA] MAR TGH TERRARIUM $ 7.50 Erect hirsute cinnamon lvs, purplish reverse; dense clumper. This one is small enough to add a vertical accent to a Wardian Case composition.

41009 CALVOA SESSILIFLORA MEL TERR TGH R $ 6.25 Choice Congo shrublet with pairs of shiny, haired lime green flowers on forked cymes; of easy culture.

11446 CAMPYLONEURON PHYLLITIDIS CRISTATUM POLYP CGH HP $ 35.00 "Crested American Strap Fern" Slowly creeping rootstock anchors papery-textured erect fronds of bright green topped with elaborate tasselling; striking clone from collector Jack Craig. Very good choice for a crested footed fern as growing culture is easier than for various of the "Elkhorn" tribe.

40137 CLUSEA GUTTIFERA GUT HP TGH $ 7.50 Excellent dwarf cousin of the "Autograph Tree": freely-branched candelabra stems studded w/ apple green 4" long triangular lvs with waxy gloss. Handsome as bonsai; excellent houseplant tolerating low humidity.

49469 COLEUS HYBRIDUS CRIMINAL BARBIE LAB TGH $ 5.75 So very weird Gothik in appearence: a very naughty Coleus with narrow puckered leaves of jade green with maroon licorice and coppery lime highlights along the slim scaber leaves with tortured cut edges. Excellent for the miniature garden as remains petite while radiating serious attitude. We cannot tell whether this recent Frieling hybrid is popular for its name or for its quite distinct appearance.

51779 COLEUS HYBRIDUS SO OBVIOUS LAB TGH HP $ 6.00 Dour reddish mahogany leaves with striking herringbone (veins) patterns of pink and rose, all framed by crennations tipped bright mint. Seems tolerant of less than perfect environment even on a window sill. "Kingwood Rose' x 'Screaming Raspberry.'

55536 COLEUS HYBRIDUS THUMBELINA LAB CGH $ 5.50 Very petite: tinsy pea green rounded, puckered lf segments with touches of chocolate purple. Just too too cute . . .

53362 CRYPTANTHUS BROMELIOIDES [HORT] BRO HP TGH $12.00 Bright glossy bronze sheened upright rosettes of elegantly arched leathery fleshy leaves mimic a dwarfed pineapple. Readily offsets to form an impressive large hemisphere as matures. This clone not the spiny Brazilian type.

52093 CRYPTBERGIA MEADII [HYB] BRO HP TGH $4.25 Erect rosette with coppery leathery lvs mottled, gray-green reverse; greenish fls. C. beuckeri x Billbergia nutans. An heirloom bromel still sought after for its modest size, good habit and quite unusual colorations. Easy very attractive houseplant tolerating less than perfect levels of humidity.

52092 CRYPTBERGIA RUBRA [HYB] BRO HP TGH $ 5.50 Beautiful pot plant of dark maroon-red laquered curved leaves tightly overlapping to form fountains of moderate size, backed with silver tones. Hyb of C. bahianus x Bilbergia nutans. Recommended. Low growing heirloom bromel always reliable as an easily grown houseplant. A great plant choice to jump start your investigation of the Bromeliad tribe.

30187 CYRTOSPERMA JOHNSTONII ARA TGH $ 12.50 "Copper Cobra" Bronzy halbert shaped leaves veined in dramatic pinkish umber with blackish blood red underleaf. An amazing Aroid from the Solomon Islands with a deep violet hooded spathe (cobra shaped) to 6" long; prickly pink petioles. Absolutely avoid chill.

11620 DICKSONIA ANTARTICA DIC CGH $15.00 The majestic "Tasmanian Treefern" needs cool (subtropic) very humid conditions to form its canopy of impressive outreaching deep green heavily textured fronds, with their network of straw toned veins, crowning the fibrous, wooly trunk. Avoid excessive heat during the winter.

41029 ELATOSTEMA SESSILE WEEPING LADY URT HP TGH $ 4.25 "Weeping Pilea" Slightly quilted toothed leaves of deep shiny green clusters on arched "weeping" fleshy succulent stems; this selection darker and more compact than species type.

40246 EQUISETUM DIFFUSUM EQU HP CGH AQ $ 8.75 "Tropical Horsetail" Soft gray green central stems form a tiny bamboo-like thicket: each central stem, with delicately nodding tip, is ringed with skirts of lateral stemlets to create intricate patterns; marvelous pot plant. Will survive some winters in our zone if the ground barely freezes, but best grown as a cool greenhouse subject.

41260 FICUS FRED BOUTIN MOR HP CGH $ 5.00 Unique woody, twiggy low growing "character" trunks give this quirky Boutin hybrid of F. carica x pumila high marks with cascade bonsai trainers who also value its richly haired, quilted foliage. Availability irregular as this is somewhat winter dormant (not shedding foliage, but slowing growth)--needs high humidity like its carica parent to maintain good spidermite free foliage; loves a pole or wall to clamber like its pumila parent. Of most interest to collectors as Moraceae are notoriously difficult to hybridize as the blossoms face the center of the enclosed protofruit..

40300 FICUS SAGITATA VARIEGATA MOR HP TGH $ 10.00 "Trailing Fig" dark quilted lvs over wiry often creeping stems which arch to give an open effect. This is the beautiful variegated or marginated form of this old favorite. Not as clingy as the Ficus pumila types, but makes quite a nice ground cover in pots around larger plants. Also if often used as a hanging basket subject.

40301 FICUS SALICARIA (SALICIFOLIA) MOR HP TGH $ 9.50 "Willow Leaf Fig" Masses of narrow lvs (thus also called F. neriifolia as well as F. salicifolia) on upright dwarf multi-trunked trees; perfect bonsai. Roots are said to be chewed as a sterility cure in Zimbabwe! We make no guarantee on curative powers, but believe it an excellent container subject. Newly published under the name of Ficus Salicaria for which information we thank Derek Burch. Whatever its name, this shrubby freely branching beauty is at home in any bonsai pot; however, released into a larger pot or given free root run, this soon achieves wide handsome proportions at which point the beauty of the older bark becomes apparent.

< 58329 FITTONIA VERSCHAFFELTII FORTISSIMO ACA HP TERR $ 6.75 A brand new variety of the Pink Nerve plant. If you wanted something bigger and more robust that could be grown anywhere, this is your choice. Not a bright, but still a fine addition. Can be used for the larger terrarium also.

58360 FITTONIA VERSCHAFELTII SILVER ANNE ACAN TERR TGH $ 6.50 A cultivar of "White Nerve Plants" with unusually bright white veins in a startling network on strong papery leaves. Best in a Wardian Case as may be too vigorus for a small terrarium. But remember Nerve Plants can be easily grown as a windowsill plant also.

50519 GEOGONANTHUS UNDATUS COMM CGH HP $10.00 "Seersucker Plant" Shiny quilted lvs of dark metallic green, pinstriped with gray; red underleaf. Prostrate Peruvian. Much sought after for its amazing presence in the larger terrarium design, yet the waxy leaves can tolerate the lower humidity of a windowsill; however, this emerges still as most spectacular under the care of litegardening hobbyists becoming an amazing glossy hemisphere of quilted puckery pinstriped foliage. (Even if this does sound as if the hobbyist will head into a new fashion mode of seersucker also.) If leaves brown, this means your water is high in salts or in dangerous water softeners or that it has been exposed to winter chill. Even at this lower price, we send out well established plants.

20166 GLOXINIA SYLVATICA GES HP TGH $ 3.00 Formerly Seemannia latifolia. "Christmas Slippers" This is a select evergreen clone with narrow felted dark lvs closely covering the stiff cascading stems; many red-orange slim guppy-mouthed lfs during winter months. Excellent houseplant; even when not in bloom the attractive foliage is evergreen and attractive all seasons.

41161 HEDERA HELIX CONGLOMERATA ARAL HP HH CGH $ 4.25 Undulating leathery, blackish green leaves clasp stiff, often contorted, upright stems; forms semi-erect bush with time. The wavy (heart-shaped at base) leathery leaves survive our winter unscathed if situated away from winter sun and wind.

42115 HEDERA HELIX LITTLE DIAMOND ARAL CGH HH $ 6.25 Small-statured 'Kleiner Diamant' with diamond shaped gray splashed leaves with delicate white border. Very shrubby; a conversation piece small enouch for the alpine house.

50031 HEMIGRAPHIS EXOTICA VARIEGATA [HORT] ACAN HP TGH $ 5.25 "Variegated Waffle Plant" the oval puckered metallic-purpled pairs of leaves, each with an attractively rolled margin, are splotched with straw yellow; wonderful as the furled margins reveal the wine-red underleaf. Popular for hanging baskets, for windowboxes, and indoor sunny window sills; and successful also as an aquatic in pool or aquarium.

40364 HOFFMANIA FANTASIA [HYB] RUB HP TGH $ 0.00 LIMITED AVILABILITY Hybrid with shimmering quilted lvs of green copper-satin. Handsome wide leaved hybrid of ghiesbrecktii x refulgens. Often sold out; please check before ordering.

40384 IMPATIENS REPENS $ 4.50 "Ceylon Jewelweed" Cascading thick red succulent stems (which self branch to form a mat) populated by masses of tiny coppery kidney shaped leaves dramatically punctuated by occassional impressive cornucopia shaped yellow hooded blossoms. Always popular with indoor litegardeners and with hobby greenhousers as a wonderful color and texture addition to any plant grouping; recently discovered by "Tropicals in Temperate Zone" designers as an excellent performer cascading from summertime urns, baskets, and windowboxes, adding a whole new dimension to an Impatiens grouping.

40378 IMPATIENS VELVETA SECRET LOVE [HORT] BAL TGH TERR $ 7.50 Possibly of platypetala affinity; deep emerald leaves with startling silver midvein and brilliant carmine underleaf. Big cornucopia helmet shaped rosy pink flowers. Large terrarium recommended if grown as a houseplant. Does poorly in hot climates. Thanks to Chris Baker.

11430 LEPISORUS BICOLOR POLYPO CGH $ 7.25 Resembles a sophisticated Pyrrosia with very slim surface rhizomes; strap fronds with indented polka-dot spore patches distinguish this "Sechuan Ribbon Fern" which Eco-Gardens considers Zone 8 hardy. Quite beautiful and distinct in pot or basket--even though its initial slow deliberate growth rate may test your patience. Grown in Camellia house conditions this creeping fern becomes fantastic, whether as a ground cover, as a hanging moss basket subject, or as a gradually shingling climber on a moist protected wall.

42233 MEDINILLA LALIQUE [HYB] MEL HP TGH $ 14.50 Very rich green glossy long lvs with prominent veins on self-branching corky stems; glorious hanging chandelier shaped clusters of delicate pearl-toned petals emerging from bright lilac base. Much smaller statured than M. magnifica and the similar large foliaged 'Kinabalu,' thus much easier as a pebble tray houseplant--extremely elegant habit. Wonderful presented in a hanging basket in the greenhouse or conservatory so the art noveau elaborately branched pendant flower clusters can be observed from beneath.

20477 NEMATANTHUS YELLOW MAROON #82-123 GES TGH $ 5.50 Stout upright stems, toned red, hold elongated heart leaves with felted surface and red-veined reverse. Attractive inflated blossoms: and the colors would be?

52132 NEOREGELIA AMPULACEA ZEBRINA [HORT] BRO HP TGH $ 8.50 Very showy compact epiphyte, forming colonies of leathery urn-shaped plants joined by tinker-toy stolons; each narrow urn's dark olive leathery lvs dramatically banded maroon.

53359 NEOREGELIA SCHULTSIANA CREAM FIREBALL BRO HP TG $18.00 The fabulous carmine red compact urns of the species form, brilliantly accented with broad ivory cream margins. Needs bright light and good humidity to best form its colony of pert rosettes. Very beautiful; a fantastic visual effect remarkable for the ease of culture in achieving it.

11586 NEPHROLEPIS EXALTATA SUZI WONG POLYPOD GH $ 7.50 Dwarf lacy selection--unlike most extremely delicate types, if adaquate moving air is available, the fronds do not discolor & brown easily, even though layer after layer of froth develops on each frond.
