81734 CALAMAGROSTIS ARUNDINACEA OVERDAM GRA HT $ 8.75 "Variegated Foxtail Grass" Erect vertical appeal of the tightly clumping species with brightly white banded foliage topped with soft pink plumes aging to straw gold, holding on into winter.

81704 CALAMINTHA GRANDIFLORA VARIEGATA LAB HT $ 8.50 "Speckled Calamint" Aromatic bushy small plant with densely silver-white flecked emerging foliage; bright pink flowers. Also beautiful as a cool greenhouse container plant. Availability irregular--check before ordering.

71680 CALLICARPA BODINIERI GIRALDIANA VER HT $ 5.75 Rare large Z5 shrub with pink flower clusters forming wonderful mauve-blue "Beauty Berries," a great show until the birds decide to harvest them during the winter snows. Very beautiful, very desirable.

70501 CALLICARPA JAPONICA VER HT HH $ 4.50 "Japanese Beautyberry" Small shrub with oval lvs; pale pink flowers (beloved by butterflies) followed by striking blue-violet berry-like drupes in clusters. Certainly one of the most charming shrubs for the garden, often treated as a perennial and cut to the ground each winter so that the new arching stems will form a perfect hemisphere of startling fall berries which are produced in great abundance since this winter harcy Lantana cousin blooms on NEW growth, thus allowing you to sheer the woody stems back as severely as you wish each winter after the birds have enjoyed their feast. This is an excellent performer in the midwestern garden.

80114 CAMPANULA POSCHARSKYANA CAM HT $ 4.50 "Yugoslavian Bellflower" Carpets of crimpted foliage foil perfectly the sprays of powder-blue cupped starflowers; once established, very drought resistent and a vigorous colonizer. That means do not plant this near tiny treasures which might not appreciate such a vigorous neighbor.

88666 CAMPANULA PUNCTATA HONDENSIS CAM HT $ 5.00 Low carpeting foliage gives rise to strong stalks beautifully displaying the dramatic large purpled rose dangling bellflowers, spotted inside; larger and darker than 'Rubriflora' and quite delighted with the Midwest's climate, unlike so many other "Bellflowers" which slowly fade away in summer's heat. Long an excellent reliable performer in our gardens.

89137 CAMPSIS RADICANS TAKARAZUKA BIG HT $ 12.00 Broad pyramid with spreading branches with rich yellow-gold variegated pinnate leaves. Quite impressive delicate specimen given good sun and ample space. These are starter sized plants.

70227 CAMPSIS TAGLIABUANA MADAME GALEN [HYB] $ 6.50 "Trumpet Vine" hybrid of grandiflora x radicans; aerial rootlets anchor creeping vines with pairs of pinnate lvs & terminal clusters of brassy salmon-red trumpet flowers enjoyed by all Hummingbirds. This hybrid blooms for many months each year once it is established.

81615 CAREX ALBULA FROSTED CURLS CYP HH HT $ 6.75 Unusual tufts of mahogany chocolate sedge-like foliage frosted pale pewter on twisted tips; very distinctive designer mop appearance in the rock garden or used as a container plant (especially as you'll want to bring this peroxide bleached tightly clumped Zone 8 wonder indoors if you wish.); if situated in a rocky/skree location in full sun away from severe winter winds, this amazing creature survives our Zone 6 winter eventually appearing to be someone's discarded wig lost in the winter snows. Seems to be the same plant as C. comans 'Frosted Curls.'

< 81509 CAREX FLACCOSPERMA CYP HH HT $ 3.25 Very broad blades of pale bisque-parchment tones, quilted along their lengths; form very attractive compact tufts.

Greg Speichert at Crystal Palace Perennials shared this with us.

88775 CAREX MORROWI ICE DANCE CYP HT $ 4.00 Tightly clumping "Cream Sedge" forms jewel like tuffets of glossy leathery slim blades with far wider cream-ivory margins than the similarly vigorus 8" tall cultivar 'Variegata.' Z5 treasure for bog, border, or small container. Availability can be limited--check before ordering in quantities.

71110 CAREX NIGRA VARIEGATA CYP HT $ 8.00 A selection of the very hardy very evergreen "Ebony Grass" with bright white margins on the short leathery leaves held in very tight clumps--grows well in sun or shade. Hard to find species performing as well in our uncertain climate--keeps its contrasty foliage with less winter burning than any other variegated sedge in our climate.

41780 CAREX PHYLLOCEPHALA SPARKLER CYP HT $ 10.50 Glorious foot tall sedge with purplish sheathes at base of each tufted head of wide leafblades, each margined ivory white with central stripes also. We consider this not to be reliably hardy above Zone 8 (yes, we know some of you claim to have grown it in a microcosm in Zone 6 for years!) because, in part, as this species forms a woody pseudocaudex basal root it needs better drainage than most--it is not an aquatic. Continuing popularity as a distinctive exclamation point in a potted plant display in hobby greenhouses. Always popular with grass collectors as no other sedge gives a more elegant handsome appearance. See the TROPICAL PLANTS SECTION for listings of other tropical and subtropical Carex.

89218 CAREX CILIATUM ISLAND BROCADE CYP HT HH $ 7.75 New intro for 2008. 71727 CARYOPTERIS CLANDONENSIS SNOW FAIRY VER HH HT $ 12.00 The delicate "Blue Mist" flowers line the long elegant three foot stems (once the clump has matured--initialy shorter) which are punctuated with pairs of serrate leaves--each strikingly margined with bright white variegation. An amazingly beauty which has proven to be hardy Zones 5 thru 9--but note that in the colder zones this is a perennial (maintaining no stems above the freeze line) reemerging beautifully from the soil every spring; it is a shrub only in warm climes.

71261 CARYOPTERIS CLANDONENSIS WORCESTER GOLD VER HT $ 4.75 "Golden Leaved Blue Spiraea" From England comes this golden lime (fading to ocher in fall) foliaged shrub with late blue flowerws tinged lilac.

70058 CATALPA BIGNONIOIDES AUREA BIG TH $ 5.50 Golden-leaved form of "Southern Catalpa" with pyramidal panicles of white tubular blossoms with yellow spots in rows oversprinkled with purple spots.
