51047 HAEMANTHUS ALBIFLOS PUBESCENS AMARYL HP CGH PRICE: $ 28.00 Ciliate-margined evergreen leaves with downy leaf surfaces; "White Paint Brush" flowers presented on short thick stems, mid winter. Some sources relegate this to just H. albiflos, yet we find this to be easier to grow and to bloom, more attractively foliaged, and slightly more compact than the species form; This Amaryllis cousin must have bright light and good air movement at all time to flourish--perfect for that spot which is just a bit too sunny for your Clivia.

66038 HATIORA (RHIPSALIS) SALICORNIOIDES CAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 3.00 "Drunkard's Dream" or "Dancing Bones" Epiphytic Rhipsalis cousin with stiftly arching thickly-branched sprays of bottle-shaped branchlets tipped with yellow flowers fading to salmon; soon makes a wonderful windowsill potplant (or with time, a stunning hanging basket subject) with very regularly dividing bone shaped stem section forming a very symetrical outline. Distinct from and quite unlike its Rhipsalis kin in that the "Drunkard's Dream" has stem segments which are determinate, meaning in botanical terms that each little bottle shaped segment has a predetermined size and shape when it starts to be formed. Usually shipped as unrooted cuttings in dry moss.

HAWORTHIAS for the 2013 SEASON

Check the Gasteria section (just above) for the listing of the collections available for Gasteria and Haworthia. Below are the Haworthias drawn from our larger collection which are currently available individually.

65212 HAWORTHIA ATTENUATA CAESPITOSA LIL HP PRICE: $ 4.00 The "Zebra Plant" is horticulturally known as H. fasciata (actually a separate slow H. coarctata type). White pearls of raised tubercles form bright cross-bands on dark stiff leaves in upright rosettes. The one grandma had.

65577 HAWORTHIA LANCIOLETTA VARIEGATA [HORT] LIL HP TGH PRICE: $8.00 Beautiful & curious slim H. cooperi type from the late Jim Peterson collection with bright white striped somewhat translucent leaves in tight rosettes--the liquid white variegations vary from one rosette to the next, but never entirely disappear, often re-appearing on pups from seemingly non-variegated rosettes. Distinctive even though the name is up for grabs. Please do not ask where and when this was "published" for we know not, although suspecting a lucky bastard hybrid origin many years ago. To avoid confusion we continue to use this designation as it has been so called for well over twenty years with none better brought forth.

65242 HAWORTHIA LIMIFOLIA LIMIFOLIA LIL HP TGH PRICE: $ 8.75 "Fairy Washboards" Furrowed black-green convex/cupped leaf surfaces with raised transverse ridges; whorled leaves appear screwed into tight rosettes; stoloniferous offsets. Very handsome transvaal native.

65442 HAWTHORIA MIDORINOSONO [HYB] LIL HP CGH PRICE: $ 8.75 Rare cultivar with a wide H. cuspidata habit distinguished by random blotches and streaks of white on the fleshy leaves often extending into the veined windows. Very flashy, very popular for its unique form of splendid variegation: and every flat juicy rosette is variegated--we have never observed a reversion to solid green or to solid albino. Very shallow roots--plant accordingly.

65504 HAWORTHIA NIGRA LIL HP TGH PRICE: $ 15.00 Black columns of plump hard surfaced short leaves. Great small growing succulent; perhaps a good candidate for a decidedly upscale dish garden.

65378 HAWORTHIA PYGMAEA [HORT] LIL HP TGH PRICE: $ 8.00 Small rosettes with rough crystaline windowed leaves. We have been informed that this is sometimes offered as retusa acuminata in Europe--nomenclature uncertain. This is the most petite of any in our collection; typically sent as divisions in dry moss so it will travel safely to you. If you want a large plant, please do not order this as it will never be more than microscopic.

65481 HAWORTHIA RETUSA GERALDII LIL HP TGH PRICE: $ 12.00 Unusually large form of retusa with impressive blunt windowed elongated triangular leaftips with ornate lines over the transparent areas; a collection from near Riversdale, RSA, eventually forming am impressive hemisphere of rosettes. Very shallow roots--thus, use a very shallow pot.

65413 HAWORTHIA UBOMBOENSIS LIL PRICE: $ 6.50 The unique "False Tillandsia" has the stoloniferous character and stiff open rosette of H. limifolia (under which it has been classified); however the pale green smooth leaves lack any ridging. Handsome unique species turning liliac in bright light. Stoloniferous habit makes this popular in mossed topiary and in mossed succulent wreaths as offsets pop out randomly after burrowing below.

The Wax Flowers (HOYAS) for the 2013 SEASON

99080 HOYA COLLECTION: A solid introductory selection of high performance "Wax Flowers"--including flashy H. carnosa cultivars seldom (if ever) offered in the catalogue listings. This bargain price reflects strong cuttings sent in moss (and they will root in your conditions best in moss) as well as a strong probability that some will be already potted. Certainly one of the most ordered plant collections we offer. 5 different @ PRICE: $20.00 To see a book about Hoyas, click this link.
If you want a specific species or cultivar, order it individually as the introductory collections must remain entirely our selection because the group will usually change weekly.
.

60816 HOYA BELLA PAXTONII ASC TGH HP PRICE: $ 10.00 Crinkle-edged leaves on pendant stems with flat umbles of white flowers with cute pink coronas. Indian collection originally distruibuted as H. Paxtonii (Nichols). Usually sent in pots, but when demand is high or during periods of extended warm weather, is safer to send unrooted cuttings in moss.

60063 HOYA BELLA VARIEGATA ASC TGH HP $ 15.00 Variegated leaf pairs on pendant stems with flat umbles of white flowers with cute pink coronas. We love the variegation in the middle of the leaves. Good growing easy plant usually sent as a mossed unrooted cutting.

68503 HOYA BILOBATA ASC TGH HP PRICE: $ 15.00 Lovely "Mindanao Mini Hoya" from that Philippine origin with dense oval pubescent coin leaves, darker on the felted surface, paired on lax scandent stems decorated with scented clusters of mini yellow eyed pink blossoms. Among the most successful for house or lite garden culture.

The fabulous Hindu Rope Plants, Hoya carnosa cultivars. Great House Plants

55702 HOYA CARNOSA COMPACTA ASC HP TGH PRICE: $ 5.00 Dependable "Hindu Rope Plant" with waxy tortollini torked leaves so closely set as to obscure the succulent stems; very beautiful clusters of fragrant deep pink blossoms. Currently considered more correctly called Hoya c. 'Regalis'--usually in pots, but can be a generous unrooted cutting.

60079 HOYA CARNOSA COMPACTA MARGINATA (REGALIS) ASC HP TGH PRICE: $ 8.00 "Variegated Hindu Rope Waxflower" Originally received from the legendary Ed Hummel: pink flower umbels dangle from the meandering stems completely invisible under the thick waxy wavy crinkly leaves, each with a bright cream border. Often called "Hoya compacta regalis," this is usually shipped in pots, but may be shipped as an ample cutting in moss.

60806 HOYA CARNOSA DAPPLED GREY ASC HP TGH PRICE: $ 15.00 Thick waxy leaves mottled silvery gray over glaucous green--an odd reptilian effect off-putting to some (perhaps more "interesting" than attractive?) and umbels of pale rimmed rosy toned blossoms. Popular for giving a reptilian pewter tone when wraped around a succulent wreath. Sometimes considered x pubicalyx cultivar, but flowers suggest carnosa; typically sent as an unrooted cutting in moss.

58496 HOYA CARNOSA MEDIO-PICTA AUREA ASC HP TGH PRICE: $ 9.50 "Golden Hoya" This is a quite variegated golden Hoya plant. Take a look at the pictures. It it brighter than Krimson Princes and much more variegated. New this summer (2012) to our offerings.

66847 HOYA CARNOSA KRIMSON PRINCESS ASC HP TGH PRICE: $ 6.25 Umbels of pink waxy blossoms against thick succulent foliage--each leaf with a golden lime center, especially colorful as new foliage emerges shrimp pink with adequate light levels and balanced fertilizer--foliar color especially dazzling when grown under plantlites. Typically shipped in pots, but may be shipped as an ample cutting in moss.

60080 HOYA CARNOSA KRIMSON QUEEN ASC HP TGH PRICE: $ 6.25 Umbels of pink waxy blossoms against thick succulent foliage--each leaf with a white edges, especially colorful as new foliage emerges shrimp pink with adequate light levels and balanced fertilizer. 60647 HOYA CUMINGIANA ASC HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.75 Overlapping small glossy Carissa-like leaves; short internodes & branching give shrubby effect; odd yellow & maroon blossoms in crayola shades. Very interesting and unique shrubby species of easy culture--for extra vigor add some lime to the mix. If not potted, may be sent as unrooted cuttings in moss. An excellent choice in your beginning collection as it always gives positive feedback!

60972 HOYA CURTISII ASCL GH PRICE: $ 12.50 Teardrop miniature leaves with silver markings. Very prostrate habit and thus perfect if grown on a moss plaque. We have seen this grown also as a very full hanging basket subject when it requires perfect drainage; far happier on moss as forms only surface roots. Flowers are small, but the tearleaf form with mottled silver breaking through on the succulent leaf is stunning--any lizard would be proud to have this patina on its scales.....as can be difficult to establish because of extremely shallow roots, we always try to send this in a pot.

60662 HOYA FRATERNA [MELIFLUA SUBSPECIES] ASC HP TGH PRICE: $ 20.00 Thick moulded wax leaves of jade green with recurved edges. Very large stature. Interesting clusters of impressive blossoms with fuzzy sienna-orange petals accented with dusky orange corolla. Said to come from Australia. 60771 HOYA FUNGII ASC HP TGH PRICE: $ 15.00Fleshy rich green ovate leaves with branching dark veins. Broad leaves especially attractive with a beautiful patina surface and usually with internodes so short that these jade like leaves appear to be shingled. Fragrant carnosa like blossoms easily produced. One of the most attractive with an unusual dusky toned shade of green foliage which is far more tolerant of chill than any in the carnosa tribe. If none currently potted, will be shipped as an ample unrooted cutting in moss. Certainly an excellent houseplant.

60873 HOYA GONOLOBIOIDES [HORT] ASC HP TGH PRICE: $ 10.00 Heavy waxy unveined foliage; straw-ivory blossoms in attractive scented clusters. Easy strong growing species. Who knows what current nomenclature applies to this old reliable vine we originally received from Loyce. Shipped as an unrooted cutting.

60695 HOYA KENTIANA [HORT] ASC HP TGH PRICE: $ 5.75 Slim succulent leaves with soft pewter green rubbery surface outlined with a dramatic cocco purple margin--forms a thick mound of cascading foliage from which dangle elegant flat umbels of red and soft rose toned elaborate blossoms. A very beautiful undemanding houseplant, especially suited for a small hanging basket so as to perfectly display the blossom clusters. Similar to plants sent to us as H. wayetii as well as Unidentified #70 by our former Athens neighbor, David Silverman when he was in the OU Art Department; Kloppenberg suggest that this is the current designation of the plant originally distributed as Elmer's angustifolia. This modest beauty seems completely unconcerned with its nomenclatural complexities. Usually shiped as an unrooted cutting in moss.

60090 HOYA KERRII ASC HP TGH PRICE: $ 14.25 "Sweetheart Hoya" or "Wax Hearts" Very thick pairs of large rigid leaves resembling inverted hearts; greenish-ivory flowers with tan-rose tones stubbornly tend to drip nectar. The Beautiful and Very Floriferous Hoya lacunosa

60094 HOYA LACUNOSA ASC HP TGH PRICE: $ 8.75 Tassel-like pendant umbels of fuzzy lemon-greenish white flowers with lemon centers and soft fragrance (a very clean aroma) perfectly match the dwarf-statured quilted leaves; the name derives form the lacunose leaf surface. That is, the surface of the leaf is cupped or depressed between the veins. Malaysian native beautifully displayed in small baskets to present the dangling scented flower clusters easily or trained on a moss topiary. Certainly the least challenging small statured cascading species to easily bloom as a houseplant. If not currently in pots, easily shipped as an unrooted cutting in moss.

58389 HOYA LACUNOSA SNOW PEAKS ASC HP TGH PRICE: $ 10.00 This is the variegated form of the great Hoya listed above. 60115 HOYA POLYNEURA ASC HP TGH PRICE: $ 10.00 "Fishtail Hoya" Pairs of thin fishtail-shaped leaves with dark prominent veins on arching stiff stems which soon dramatically cascade downward under the weight of the leaves and the odd umbles of creamy-tan flowers with reddish purple coronas in the center. Himalayan native, thus needs cooler, less sunny conditions than its more tropical cousins. Mossed unrooted cuttings, if none currently potted.

56950 HOYA POLYNEURA BRUSHSTROKES [VARIEGATED] ASC HP CGH PRICE: $ 10.00 The elegant "Variegated Fishtail Waxplant" with frosted brushstrokes highlighting each leathery rhombic leaf paired like shingles on arching stems. 60117 HOYA PUBERA [NUMMULARIOIDES] ASC HP TGH PRICE: $ 15.00 A small statured, modest plant that goes under several names. 60142 HUERNIA MACROCARPA PENZIGII ASC HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.75 Ethiopian with 4-5 angled stems and basal greenish-yellow flowers with brownish stripes. From the Peterson collection. We got this many years ago. This is a good grower.

60787 JATROPHA BERLANDIERI EUP HP TGH $ 22.00 Curious Jatropha from Mexico which is grown above ground in cultivation, although its tuber is underground in nature. We find that this plant adapts well in bright windows in the home and greenhouse. These are 3 inch plus tubers with great character. These are nice sized older plants this year.

67399 JATROPHA HASTATA [INTEGERRIMA] COMPACTA EUP HP TGH PRICE: $ 10.00 Fiddle-shaped (typically three lobed) richly toned foliage on upright stout stemmed shrublet with a constant show of deep rose red blossoms in erect clusters as long as good sunlight is available--the uncooked seeds are considered toxic to some. This spicy Cuban "Peregina" performs well as a container plant; recently discovered by the "Tropicals in the Northern Garden" designers so this extremely attractive sunloving treasure is now popping up in windowboxes, urns, and patio containers. Expect this to be winter dormant unless you are in a very tropical clime. Sometimes offered in Europe as J. pandurifolia, or so we are told.
