We just Upgraded & Have New Imagery & Plants

October 15, 2012
We have done more upgrading of our Website. We have received many emails from customers and web visitors saying that our site is one of the most beautiful online. We are thrilled with your response. The links just under the Rotating Images at the top of each page include more navigation possibilities. We just added a new Fairy Garden Offerings Page ==>(http://www.FairyGardenPlants.com) and updated our Terrarium Plant Page==>(http://www.TerrariumSite.com) since both of these are very popular plant listings for numerous of our customers. We also have a link to a wonderful article done on us titled "The most Amazing Local Place You've Probably Never Seen!." Also we want to mention that we will be appearing in the January 2013 "Ohio Magazine" in an article on our famous Terrarium Plants. We were in the October issue of "Country Living" for the "Paddle Plant" and received a lot of interest in it. We of course as usual will ship most of the winter. The weather does not look bad for the winter and we can use heat packs if we need to. The only time we will probably not ship in the couple weeks before the Christmas and New Years Holidays because of so many boxes being mailed during that time. We plan to ship regularly through the end of November with no problems. Last year we started shipping in mid January and had no problems. So pick the plants you want to order and get in touch with us.

We Have Upgraded our Weblisting Links!

August 15, 2012
We just upgraded (or made easier) our Web Navigation links as of August 15, 2012. On each page now just under the rotating images at the top is a link that says "Click Here Now to go Directly & Quickly to the Main Listing of Plants and Supplies." This link takes you to the location where you can see all the basic pages with all of our plants and Garden offerings. From there, you can navigate to the particular page you want with the plants you are looking for. Of course, you have to know what the Genus name is. Lately, we have received a lot of orders for the Kalanchoe group. So you can just click on this link, and then go the Succulent section and click on the letter "K." This will save some time if you don't have the time to "Browse!" We hope this is a help if you want to quickly order a plant or check to see if a particular plant is available at this time.

We Have also Upgraded our Web Imagery!

August 15, 2012
You will also notice that we decided to upgrade every rotating Image at the top of every page. This is the First Top Image on every page with our Business Name and Domain Names. Each page now has a set of photos that are specific to plants in that offering. For instance, the Kalanchoe page has images that are Kalachoes. The Terrarium Page has images that are specific to the creations of terrariums. The Color Purple Page has images of plants that are purple and lavender! The Variegated Plant pages have photos of variegated plants. The Coleus offerings have pictures of coleus. We thought this would be of interest to you, our customers, also. We wanted to improve our site this year. This may confuse you at first, but we figured by adding the link that we mention above to the basic navigation page would be a way to give you the oportunity to either view more pictures and browse slowly or to use the new link to quickly go to the page you want. Enjoy.

The New Search Engine

We upgraded our Search Engine for finding items and plants on our Website this season. Just look for the "Search our Offerings--Click Here Now" box at the top of every page just below the Glasshouse Works Images. You can also find it at the very bottom of each page where it says "Search our Online Website Offerings." This is a new fast websearch that is very reliable. So, look for

Glasshouse Works Plants Traditional and Unusual
or

and click to look for the plants or garden items you want. Type in the term or plant name and the search will find the pages that the item you want is not. Usually the first and second links listed are the best. This search primarily searches only Sales pages and Picture Galleries. For your convenience, we have also included on our main search page the search by Google that searches just our website. It has never been easier to find what you want at the Glasshouse Works.

Likewise, if you see the bar above on our pages, you can quickly link to our Search Engine, Our Featured Plant Offerings, or Our Online Auctions. We mention this here because we will be doing some auctions this Fall-Winter (2013) of items we have only one or two specimens of or of slightly overgrown rareplants. You might want to check on some really spectacular plants that we might offer in a more limited fashion. Also, the Plant (or Plants) of the Month will illustrate some new or once-again available items from our collection. Check them out!!

1) This designation means that the plant is usually ready and usually ships in a reasonably short time, given appropriate weather during the shipping period.

2) This designation means that the plant is usually ready but may take a longer period of time or if not ready immediately can be potted up in a reasonal time for shipment. We will email or contact if the period of time is longer.

3) This designation means that it can sometimes take a period of time for propagating and finishing these plants. We take orders for these items and upon receiving the order we start working to get the item ready for shipping when it is rooted or seasonally available. This period can be 6 to 8 months. This is the only way we can make available rare, unique, and difficult-to-propagate items valued by collectors and serious hobbyists.

Welcome to Fall-Winter 2013 Glasshouse Works Online Catalogue.

We have uploaded as of October 31, 2012 a new Version of the Coleus Picture Gallery. Click Here to see the New Version. The Older Version is still available also. We have also added the first set of new plants in the Tropical Section and the Perennial Section.

We have some wonderful News. We were listed in the New York Times on November 11 as a source of plants that are " Hard to Kill!" We are very pleased with this. Other news is that we are enlarging our "Coleus Gardens" Page with a "Our Customer's Great Gardens" page. We have just received some wonderful photos of what various of our friends and customers do with our plants. Check this out at "Our Customer's Great Gardens." We will have more gardens listed there shortly. We have made the "Welcome Page" of our website friendlier with an more obvious Search Engine. And a link to this new Customer's Garden Page. We think it is easier to browse our website now. We have more images and more obvious links. Take a look around. In January there will be new plants added in many catagories. To make things easier, also, we have added the choice of to our choices of ordering. With the Economy the way it is, some of the nurseries out there have disappeared. Thus, we will be trying to offer more variety of plants. Some of these plants are difficult. As you know some orders have to be readied for you. This can take time. We usually try to get the order out in six to eight weeks (or less). This is sometimes impossible. Many orders actually do get mailed in a week or two! But to be clearer, we are listing some items as "Special Order , some as "Buy Now" , and a new catagory of "Propagate To Order" and this final catalgory can perhaps take six to eight months. These plants can be seasonal or will have to be brought in from Asia or South America on our periodic imports. We want to know if you want them; and if you want us to work on getting the plant ready for you, we will do a Propagate to Order Invoice for these plants and get them mailed when they are ready. On these items, the wait can be possibly 6 to 8 months. On "Special Order" items, the wait if much less and can be a couple months. We of course try to keep in contact with you as things progress. We thought these desiginations would be good to use. We want to continue to be here and offer the plants that are standard and "Hard to Kill!" but also the rarer and possibly "Easier to Kill" plants. We want to be your source for beautiful and hard to find plants.

Spring and Summer 2012 We are working on our Houseplant offerings now for your Fall and winter shipments! Check out the New Plants for 2012 . Things keep changing as the seasons go by! It is now November and we have many plants getting ready in the in our greenhouses! It was an unusually hot summer, but this Fall plants are getting ready on a daily basis. We will have a lot of great plants for the 2013 SEASON. We still are propagating Coleus. We will be shipping Coleus throughout the Spring in Collections. Some of the Coleus, however, will not be ready again until Summer, 2012. Check them out Here. If you are in a hurry and want to get a quick shipment of Coleus, try these coleus collections. We can get these Coleus Craze collections out almost always the next week. But unlike other years, we have done shipping when 1) the plants are ready and 2) the weather permits. These orders have been primarily for houseplant types. We have increased the amount of pottery and supplies in the new showrooms this year again. There are also several relatively "New" features to our Website (they have the icon designation.) Be sure to view the Virtual Tour of the Gardens and greenhouses. This will take you from the front entry way through the various garden rooms with a final look at some of our tropicals. Next, we have just included some views of a beautiful Victorian Garden featuring coleus and other exotic tropicals used as summertime bedding plants. Check out our Victorian Garden link. We have some very beautiful photos in this section from the gardens or Charles Downer and recently Sue Novello This is an old section with pictures from several years back and we have just added some recent photos to it. . . And finally, we have added some new plants to the Variegated Plant Gallery. Click Here to travel to the world of Variegated Plants. This Variegated plant listing has been revised and now includes almost 400 items. Enjoy.

We continue to revise the whole online catalogue this 2013 SEASON. It keeps changing. One of the major changes is many new photos. We have added extra photographs for various of our offerings. Sometimes these extra photos are of the plant at different times of the year. And we have basically remodelled the Perennial and Succulent Pages with lots of new additions for 2012. We have now inserted 25 more Begonias and 35 more Coleus in the Tropicals pages. So there is much to see online for 2012. During the summer months, orders often go out more quickly, because we have the outdoors to grow in too. Click here to go right to the main catalogue page! Our Everchanging Specialty List is now online for your perusal Click Here to go directly to some of the new listings for the Spring & Summer 2013 SEASON. For many of you the catalogue listings alone will be an eye opening adventure, but we have some super unusual items in our new Specialty List! Take a look.We have just amplified our new department, Garden Art and Gift Items. We have just renamed our website, Glasshouse Works, "Items for Home, Garden and Conservatory." The old logo was "Plants Traditional and Unusual." Both of these logos still apply! With the addition of the domain name, www.fantasticgardens.com, you will also note that we refer to our site as "The Fantastic Gardens of the Glasshouse Works." Nothing egotistical about that! We have just expanded.

"Family Circle" (November 2010) magazine just mentioned us in an article on Ferns and dwarf plants. Martha Stewart's "Cookie" Magazine (for November 2010) also gave us a nod in an article on Terrariums! We are thrilled to have been featured in the January "House and Garden" magazine for our distinctive tropical introductions and reintroductions of worthy older houseplant types. Take a look at the January Issue. Also, "Fine Gardening" has listed us as a source for our Geranium Collections.Take a look at "Martha Stewart Living" this spring for nods to our distinctive plants listings also. We are not listed directly in February's issue, but the article on ferns in "Martha Stewart Living" includes a lot of ferns that we offer and shows one of the terrariums we offer. The recentissue of Martha Stewart lists us as a source of fine begonis. December 2006 saw an article in the New York Times as Well as the Courier Journal featuering our Begonias again! Last August, we were listed as the source for Terrarium plants in "House and Garden." The plants in the pictures of this issue were from Glasshouse Works too! We might venture to say that Begonias ended up beging the "Plant of the Year" almost during the latter part of 2006. We also have stocked up on Terrarium Plants because there is such an interest in them and miniature gardening. The Glasshouse Works is very much in the flow of the plant interest this year. It is now the beginning of the shipping season for 2010 and we are pleased to announce that we have been able to obtain the domain name of "www.FantasticGardens.com." This added to the domain you know us by for the last eight years of "www.RarePlants.com" and "www.FinePlants.com" as well as the recently acquired "ExoticPlants.com"completes the foursome of names that denote what we represent to you, our customer, the plant enthusiast. We are pleased that you can search for us by these names that relay the meaning our our business and gardens, our exotic plants and flowers! You can email us at "info@exoticplants.com" or "info@rareplants.com" We hope to hear from you.

We have been adding some garden statuary and planting even more rare and distinctive plants in our display gardens. We think that you will enjoy a visit to our gardens this coming Summer and Fall. In fact, we have given several bus tours and had visitors from all over the globe. It is hard to keep the avid gardener down!! We have added some wonderful Chinese statuary. Most recent is a set of large red sunset marble Foo Dogs which oversee all the activities of the gardens! We also have Hercules at the entry to the garden. We have added a sundial on an ancient looking podium. Recently we installed a set of the four seasons statues, representing the seasons of the year. We are working to get two Mill Stones integrated into the designs. We have a stack of Circle Design brick to create some new pathways. Although this project is not finished yet, some of the circle brick has been installed and the design is looking good. . But we have added a pair of statuary Griffins to help guard the plants. We also have some gorgeous urns (not planted yet though). We also just installeda large fountain with water flowering gently over stone grapes. Looks rather Italianate. We now have the new statuary in stock in the garden, including a great angel, a Pan, a Dragon, and some cranes. We have recently added two wonderful granite elephants and a group of granite benches which are gradually being engraved by Richard Dickerson, our resident artist. The legacy of Ameriflora has left a wonderful conservatory in Columbus, Ohio. This is the Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Garden. Located conveniently on Broad Street just East of downtown Columbus, this garden and conservatory houses a fine collection of exotics from around the world. We have been working closely with the Gardens. In the 2013 SEASON, The Franklin Park Conservatory has aquired a great number of Dale Chihuly Glass objects, some of which have been integrated into the plant rooms. It is an amazing and astounding site. A visit is well worth your while if you are in the area. We just transferred a group of tropicals up to Columbus to be integrated with the collections there. Among these is a Pandanus collection and some very distincive specimen bromeliads. Our emphasis in working with the Conservatory is to upgrade the displays from a great display to a world class display! We will let you know of any interesting news as it happens this spring at the Franklin Park facility. Different shows and events are planned all year long. Call them for details when you are in the area: call (614)-645-8733 for the hours of the constantly changing shows and exhibits.

If you live in the Ohio area, contact the gardens for information on their tours (call (614)-645-5923 for more information).
